UFC99: Germany

are there any new rumors on the ufc99 card?
is it actually happening?

couture now says he wants the fight with nog.
liddell seems to have another fight at lhw.

i was so pumped for the ufc coming to cologne....
so what´s up with this card?
is couture vs nog happening in germany?
i wouldn´t mind that; it´s a classic matchup.

i imagine the ufc is having problems getting into german media:

there have been a lot of bad articles about the sport in the big magazines.

in german tv ppv never got established.

pro sieben, the tv station which the ufc was trying to get a deal with, is new in televising boxing in a format named "pro sieben fight night".
this format is obviously the one which would air ufc.

especially in the sports and entertainment resorts all stations have their own formats.
it would be something new and not familiar to buy a complete format and production.
the stations usually have their own hosts for events (stefan raab would be the first choice for pro sieben).

i hope you guys here understand my poor english!
i hope you get my point!
to me it looks like the happening of ufc99 in germany is far away from being more than a rumor.

the language could be the next problem:
the uk and ireland events do not need to have an extra commentator.
it will not be easy to find an german commentator who has the knowledge of the sport and enough experience with broadcasting to heat on the viewers.
add to it that ufc commenting has usually its own kind of censoring.

thoughts anyone?

Don't many Dutch speak good german? No shortage of Dutch MMA analysts.

No, no they don't. I'm sure some dutch speak german, but I don't think you could find a good dutch MMA anouncer who speaks german.

most of them speak german but not good enough to broadcast the event.
if any tv station really buys the whole package, it will be expensive.

to get good tv ratings is a hard task for mma debuting in germany.
in england they had cage rage.
a few years ago some german coaches were invited to start a reality-tv-show similar to tuf.
it was going to broadcasted on dsf, the biggest national sports station, in the saturday 8:15 pm slot (!!!!!).
live vents were planned, with superfights between the coaches.
my coach also was asked to participate.
when he told us that he would not accept the offer i was kind of shocked, because to me it looked like a great opportunity for his school and mma nationwide.
once more my coach was right:
a few days before the first event should take place, the whole thing was stopped and everybody was released from their contracts.
i think the ufc realizes how hard it will be for them to get into the german market.
maybe they are overthinking their plan.
the pionneer-work for mma hasn´t been done yet here.
even the own scene wasn´t able to break into tv landscape.

Whats going on with Drwal? If he is still in the UFC he will probably be on that card since he used to fight in germany.

I would like to see Lesnar vs Mir II and Randy vs Nog on the same card but I doubt that would happen. Sigh.
