UFC: Sudden Death Over Time?

ok guys... yea, the bj/gsp fight is still sour for me. yes, gsp won round 2 and 3 on points... but thats not the point. i say, the UFC should impose a 'sudden death' overtime (extra round), to any fight that is close.

i think this would be highly successful because think about it... both fighters will know that its too close to judge, and will lay EVERYTHING they have on the extra round and surely, the true winner should come out in that round alone.

i say the UFC.. because prides 10-5-5 round system is amazing.. and i dont see the UFC changing the 5-5-5 for quite some time. so what do you think... if its relatively close... give them another round? (even 3 minutes).

Well, first off Zuffa cannot just decide unilaterally to implement that - it´s the NSAC that you need to convince. And they aren´t particularly concerned with making the fights more exciting.....safety is their #1 concern.

But in theory I agree with this. The drama in K-1 is evident in close fights when the fighters are waiting for the decision and you can see in their eyes that the know that maybe they need to put their mouthpieces back in and get stuck in one more time.....the relief is evident when someone is declared winner...

yea man i know what youre saying... its definitely more complicated then simply implementing more rules... but the thing is:

sometimes fighters need to be reminded that the fight is too close to call, and virtually the outcome of the fight will be awarded to the best fighter during OT.

plus, they would be given an extra break before throwing down, while the judges decide on OT or not. maybe 2-3 minutes.

actually...this would be a great idea if they could pull it off. I woulda liked to see an extra round in 3 close fights in the UFC recently....Leben vs. Cote....GSP vs. BJ...and Forrest vs. Bonnar in the TUF finale.

I think Draws should be allowed, and used more frequently. It SHOULD be allowed to score rounds 10-10. Also I think that it should be mandatory that the judges should be UD for the win - or it should be declared a draw. I´d rather see alot more draws (were a winner was clear), than controversial wins and stuff like that. If its a tournament or a contender-fight, have them go another round (and another and another, until someone scores atleast a 10-9 on all judges). Championship bouts... well let the champ keep his belt. You SHOULD beat a champ convincingly to get his title.

why not just add a 4th judge... so if any decision is 2-2 at the end of 3 rounds, it goes to OT.

'but why add a 4th judge, youll just see more draws.'

this may be, but im sure im not the only one that more than occasionally thinks that only 3 judges isnt enough.
