UFC is a Sports Contest - Its not a fight !

I use to post here years ago but I got way too buisy . Now im back . Anyways here is my first rant .
I am a fan of the UFC , I like watching their events . However , that being said , It became very painfully obvious to me watching UFC 61 that the matches are less like fights and more like a contest . A perfect example of this was the referee involvement in both the Edwards vs Stevens and the Shamrock vs Ortiz matches .
If you have a referee in the cage to protect "fighters" then he needs to do that . Not let some guy bleed out half of his body fluids on the mat . Then later stop another match because one fighter has a decent flurry on the other . This makes it a contest not a "fight" . Now I know they have "regulations" and boxing commission refs that control these things but , honestly the first UFCs were not even a real fight but they sure were a lot closer then they are now . The only thing im trying to say here is that they need to stop calling these events fights . They are sporting contest with limited rules , inept judges , and brutal officiating . Calling events fights and calling themselves the Ultimate Fighting Championship is false advertisement .

Refereeing an MMA match is extremely difficult, and hindsight is 20/20

your right but then again your not so right. its a fight with very few rules , also your opponent trains in advance as an athlete and is skilled in martial arts so in some ways its actually much harder than regular fighting

I concitered it 10 years ago when I was young enough but since then I have gotten too old and now people would be calling for my retirement like they did with Couture and Shamrock . btw I have been in 4 fights in the last 10 years , how many have you been in ?

so hockey is a sports contest not 'playing hockey'?? there is still HOCKEY being played...

the sports contest IS the fight, its still fighting, thats what they are doing, and yes FIGHTING is a sports contest in this particular venue

but at its core it is, by nature, fighting.
