With the UFC taking over the world of but still keeping the seperate franchises is there a danger that the titles and title holders become undervalued. it has happened in boxing as currently nobody is realy considered to be the heavyweight champ you need to unify the belts before your really considered worthy.

i cant help but feel that MMA is going the same way with so may organisations having a so called heavy weight champ of the world does the word champion become vage will he soon have to hold the belts of multiple organisations to realy be considred the true champ. i for one hate that syste in boxing you should have one champion for the sport you only have one world cup in football, ruby ect only on superbowl so why can we justify having multiple world champions in MMA.

The Pride/UFC merger allows for unifications to happen now. With boxing there are four major governing bodies, the WBA, WBO, WBC and the IBF. Whereas in MMA there's really only two titles that matter, Pride and UFC. With unifications now possible it will make the titles more valuable, not less.

There would have to be a new major organization in MMA that is thought to be equivalent in quality to Pride and UFC for the current titles to lose some of their value.

If Fedor signs with Bodog or the Superleague (K-1 Hero's, Elite XC, Strikeforce, etc) the heavyweight title that Zuffa controls won't mean shit until Fedor is defeated or retires. Everyone in the industry and knowledgeable educated fans know who the top fighter in the world is.

If recent information is correct, the only reason Fedor was able to fight on the Bodog card is that his Pride contract was non exclusive and it was in Russia. His current Pride contract prevents him from signing multi fight deals elsewhere. He's legally obligated to fight in Pride for as many fights as he has left on that contract. It's not like he can sign a 3 fight deal with Bodog tomorrow and not fight in Pride again, Dana White suggested that he wouldn't hesitate to file an injunction on Fedor if he attempted to do so.
