It still shocks me to see UFC 61 as having the second highest buys in UFC history. That event was terrible.

Word. Somehow when Hatton and Mayweather fought on a PPV of 800,000 buys they managed to share about $30 million between them. Paying a main fighter even 2 and a half million on 500,000 buys is ripping them off. Hopefully sometime in the future fighters will be able to move away from the fighting organisation model and more towards the boxing model and get paid properly for their labours.

How is that? Is obvious that he's the UFC's third best draw after Liddell and Ortiz. His PPV's done over 500k buys, and even the third fight with Liddell that did 400k was a huge success back in that day. And don't fool yourself thinking Matt Hughes sold 620k on his drawing power alone.

its not a matter of twisting anything, you douche. i love these threads where asshats (like yourself) just make up numbers, and contesting them is somehow "against fighters". lol.
why would you think that randy is getting some sort of special deal? you can see that his buy rates aren't all that fantastic. based on randy's cancelled checks - the ONLY evidence that we have to suggest the rate of PPVs, it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that there would be ONLY 1/2M of unreported payouts at UFC 81.

he gets the same PPV sharing that couture did. meltzer reported it in 2006 when he signed his deal, far before the couture bout agreements were public. its no coincidence that they were exactly the same.
because his PPVs were the highest grossing in 2006, he made the most money of any PPV fighter that year (again, as per meltzer who is the general source for this sort of stuff).
so, if randy got $1M for the sylvia fight, tito got around $2M for UFC 66. that ain't to bad. he wants more than that, probably more guaranteed money as they likely don't trust Zuffa's PPV numbers, which they can't verify themselves.

I would too especially considering there were masses on Sherdog who could not get it because Comcast and other cable companies were having problems with pay per view. I believe the thread I saw included people in St. Louis, Alberta, N.C. and South Florida.
I know I could not get it here.
This had to have an impact on the numbers.

The fact that his headliner almost doubles the average PPV. He gets better buys even when he fights TUF stars than most of the other PPVs. What don't you understand about that. That's a significant spike in money. Compare that to how much more he is asking in salary, and do the math. It's probably worth it to keep him around, if and only if he can compete at a high level.
