Because SPike is still not a mainstream channel. It's a channel JUST FOR MEN! Way to go mainstream.
UFC DOES pay shit salaries and does NOT pay 6 figure contracts to TUF winner. REad MY link.

If sanctioning from the athletic and boxing commissions was so great an achievement, wtf is happening to the sport? Clearly, Dana and Zuffa aren't able to see the big picture.
Yeah you can argue that the TUF is a potential entry into the mainstream but if so, why pick SPIKE TV? FOrmally The National Network formally The NAshville Network(Yeehaw). It reeks of sideshow. MMA deserves better.

They are doing that thanks to Zuffa. If it wasn't for Zuffa they could never get licenses or have shows here.
I don't like Zuffa (or Dana) as buisness people.....but I admire their accoplishments.

If americans can't stomach mma, then I say let them bask in their ignorance. I'll watch the Japanese stuff.

THe thing is that americans have a huge and enviable wrestling culture. Collegiate wrestling. So it's natural for most of the best athletes in UFC to be wrestling trained. Which makes for excellent takedowns, makes them hard to hurt because wrestlers have no neck and this prevents easy knock-outs. Wrestling is a natural step to MMA in the States.
Here's the problem though. Wrestlers have no real ability to pass the guard and as good as some UFC fighters are at throwing punches while inside the guard, they're seldom show-stoppers. Usually, it's a decision win because they can't or won't advance the action to a better position. The result? A boring fight where a judge decides the winner.
Now, not all UFC fights go this way. Hughes seems to have surpassed this wrestler's rut. So have a few others. But the real excitement is now in stand-up in UFC whereas in Pride it's both on the ground AND standing. Also the yellow card system is great. UFC should adopt one.

Yes, and putting Giant Silva on a card could in no way be considered a sideshow move.
