TUF'ers are not CASUAL FANS
I am not a TUF basher, but it just annoys me when people disregard the naivete of TUF'ers by saying they are just "CASUAL FANS" like any sport.
They are NOT casual fans. A casual fan is someone who watches a game if you have it on or goes to an event if you have an extra ticket. A casual fan may perouse the sports page to see who won, but won't really make plans to watch a game. A casual fan does not clamor for autographs or pics of players. Hardcore fans do this.
And TUF'ers are hardcore fans. Just naive. When a TUF fan steps over Jens Pulver for Danny Abbadi's autograph, that is not a casual fan, it is a NAIVE HARDCORE fan.
Because CASUAL FANS do not care about photos and autographs.

People get autographs from anyone they see on TV. Believe it or not but paris hilton hands out autographs all the time. If you get on TV enough, there is going to be someone out there that wants your autograph.

Excellent point. I also never looked at it like that.
When I think about it that way, I have some naive hardcore football fan friends who think the New Orleans Saints acutally stand a chance this season because of one Reggie Bush.
Same situation, different sport I suppose.
On that note - War SAINTS! Reggie Bush for the win!

I am not talking about just autographs and pics. But TUF'ers for the most part NEVER miss a show, know all the fighters, watch all the UFNs, etc.
How can someone who does all this be called a CASUAL FAN. It's a misnomer. They are HARDCORE TUF fans or NAIVE MMA fans.

....maybe a hardcore reality show person. I cant tell u how many peoples houses ive been to at a ufc event where someone makes a stupid remark like get these shitty guys off the screen and bring me tito vs forrest i cant wait to see forrest fight. Its like watching survivor and because the long beach grand prix has celebrities and someone from survivor is racing and u want them to win doesnt mean your a indy car fan by any means. It means you watch it because of the guy you saw on a reality show and you still have no knowledge about the sport other then what you saw on a reality show.

And what seems to be the problem with that? I understand the grudge against people who claim to be experts in MMA just from watching that show, but what about the people who flock to the sport and want to learn everything about it (fighters names, records, moves....etc) and could eventually end up getting involved in it? Is it not good for the sport in that way?

I don't know, isn't it possible to be a casual fan and still having interest in collecting autographs and making pictures?
At least it's possible to switch between those two fan groups(if they exist). For example there may be a casual fan, who sees Sakuraba walking down the street and suddendly feels the urge to contact him and shoot a picture with him, although he never felt like this before and missed out some shows.
