i'm not trying to take anything away from hockey bc it is a rough sport but there is a little difference, you have protective gear in hockey. I think the biggest reason why you have to be tougher for sports such as football and hockey is bc, as you mention, the frequency that you play. A lot of games in a season wear on your body, hence why the effective life of a pro hockey or football player is very short usually. Also, it is very pure by doping standards but honestly as long as a sport isn't as bad as bicycling, i don't think we can complain..lol.
With that being said, i do have some advice, i've found it helpful and much more pleasurable to actually pour maple syrup on the area in question before you begin nuthugging and/or knobslobbing...lol
