Tough doesn't mean you can fight. NHL players would do about as good in MMA as MMA fighters would do in the NHL. I disagree with Tito that Hockey is the toughest sport behind MMA. No one dies in Hockey, but people die boxing and playing football every year.

Steve Bosse...I haven't seen him lately but his striking isn't technically there, or his gas tank.

Tough does not mean how much of a health risk it is. If that was the case, F-1 racing would be one of the toughest sports in the world.
Also, research has stated boxing is more determental to your health than MMA is so Boxing would be number 1....again, according to your theory that is.

Anyone, no matter what sport they originate from, has to train all aspects of fighting, or no, no matter who they are, will not make it into the UFC/MMA.

If you consider car racing a sport, then ya, it is one of the toughest. Besides the chance of death, car drivers endure extreme physical conditions and constantly battle heat, dehydration, and being exhausted. No way can you say boxers and football players aren't tough, even if you don't consider health risk as a qualification for being tough.

There is not a single NHL player that could fight in the UFC right out of hockey. They are tough but they have no skills in fighting, what they do is not a perfected art. They could train and in time might be able to compete. They are in awesome shape, great conditioning, but they would have to learn a whole new set of skills.

actually F1 racing is a tough sport, think of the strain on your eyes and your body sitting in a chair driving at blazing speeds for hours on end

A hockey player would gass 2 minutes into a round. They are conditioned for short 1-2 minute shifts. The one minute break wouldn't be enough for them to recover between rounds as well.
