you're allowed to cut however many more pounds than you normally weight to get to 170 to be considered a welterweight

for example.. if you weigh 175 - you would cut 5 pounds to be considered a welterwight

if you weight 320 - you have to cut 150 lbs to be considered a welterweight

wait, was this a serious question?

The amount of weight he cuts to fight at welterweight isn't a factor IMO. GSP cuts around the same amount of weight as Alves does and he's an undisputed top 3 P4P fighter.

you're saying Alves > either Fedor, GSP, BJ, Silva??

yeah..... i'm gonna have to say no on that one.

These rankings are pretty solid for me. Usually I would move 3 or so fighters around for my liking. Alves is proving he is deserving i think.

his weight is 170, therefore he's on the same bar as diego, gsp, and small ww's....his weight is 170, deal with it

he's def top 10 p4p right now

No. Not P4P. He is one of the best WW for sure, but not yet top 20 P4P IMO, but he is workingn his way up for me.

He IS a top fighter, knocking out Matt Hughes, TKOing Karo and dominating Koscheck....

P4P is not some literal formula where there actual weight is taken into account. It has a heavier reliance on the weight class in which they participate.
