Let's be honest here. Nate was working him over and if not for some silly miscalculations on Nate's part, he would have beat him and beat him decisively. He was knocked two points and still only lost a split decision.
I agree completely.

This is gonna be one of those fights that people in the near future will look up on fight-finder and think it was a straight foward win over Nate. People will not remember how thoroughly Thales got worked over, or how the point deduction for the elbow was complete BS.

This fight was a draw at best!

Thales and his nutt-hugging fans may claim he has some warrior spirit (I f'n hate that cliché), but him not wanting a rematch after everyone saw him get his ass kicked yet still get the W is proof he doesn't think he could get lucky like that twice.

Nate would kill him in a rematch.

Just my opinion.

And, yeah, he's smart to not take a rematch because Nate would demolish him the next time out. If I just got worked over that bad with my opponent getting two points taken off and STILL only won a split decision, I wouldn't want to take a rematch either. It's a death sentence.
my god are you that idiotic? i've read 3 i-views with thales in portuguese and he clearly says that he didn't know what was happening.. that he was being asked if he had condition to fight because of a cut or something

He said words to this effect in the interview?: "If he knew that Marquadt would be disqualified if he couldn´t continue fighting, I think he wouldn´t wanna fight because he was rocked big time."

First of all, in the post-interview he said the knee was no big deal - go rewatch the interview. Second, the above quote is a personal opinion regarding what Thales "would do", hence why I said what I said in a previous post.

Here's the exact quote you responded to.

Quote:
The only reason he said he was OK to fight again it´s because he thought they would have given Marquadt the win. If he knew that Marquadt would be disqualified if he couldn´t continue fighting, I think he wouldn´t wanna fight because he was rocked big time.
See, he never said what Leites would have wanted to do, only what he thought.

And here's what Leites said.

Quote:
When the referee stopped it and he was asking me, "Do you want to fight?" In my mind I was thinking, if I say no, the ref is going to stop the fight and give a victory to Nate and so every time I would look at the referee and say "No, I want to fight, I'm 100%", but I wasn't. As everybody could see that I wasn't 100% but I was saying every time, "I'm OK, I'm OK" because I didn't know what happened.
Seems logical to me that he only said he was ok cause he thought he would have lost if he didn't.

He's a very nice guy, It was a shame the fight happened the way it did, i would have prefered it had been a draw. If herb didnt deduct that point for the bogus elbow, that's what It would have been. Hopefully we get a rematch soon.
