Syliva's Stock vs Mir's Stock in the UFC

The point of this thread...Why is Frank Mir beloved and Sylvia hated? On paper Sylvia is vastly ahead of Mir and if common sense were ever a determining factor for anything on these boards, Mir> Sylvia should never exist.

1st of all, to state that Mir owns Sylvia becuase of 1 win over the guy, then that must mean that Dennis Hallman totally owns Hughes way more than Penn does, because he's taken him out TWICE. So MMAth doesn't work here, only simple logic and common sense.

Is Frank Mir as good as everyone thinks he is?
I think he's a decent fighter, but isn't and won't be UFC title material again.
I don't mind watching him fight. Mir and Monson are great, I love watching big guys that can submit. Same reason I think Nog is phenominal.

Alot of guys on here give Mir credit for being this and that but what has he done?

Tim Sylvia has a more impressive resume than Mir. More impressive by far, and Sylvia gets bashed day in and day out on these boards.
Is it cause of Sylvia's look? A look doesn't make a fighter. (Common sense strikes again!)

I'm completely confused about the Mir love and the Sylvia hate.
If Mir were to face the guys that Sylvia has beaten over the years, he would have been destroyed.
Mir doesn't beat Ricco, he wouldn't beat Cabbage, and I know he wouldn't have beaten A.A. for sure.

Sylvia's marketability as a champion is greater than Mir's. Mir is small, good on the ground but fairly one dimensional. Sylvia is just as one dimensional, however fans like the standup better than the ground.

Sylvia will always be above Mir in my book. Its only logical. And Im a bigger Mir fan that Sylvia fan, but sadly saying that won't stop jackasses from spamming "Syliva nuthugger", due once again to a lack of common sense amongst posters.

Sylvia's Future - Defends vs Arlovski, has a good chance of winning, makes his pay day and goes on to continue UFC HW domination (note - the UFC, in no way shape or form does he win vs any top 5 Pride HW).
Mir's Future - Beats a "can" in Christinson, probably gets set up for a "title shot". Probably fights the loser of AA - Sylvia and gets sent home with his retirement papers. He doesn't have the heart and its a damn shame.

Mir is a very cerebral and articulate guy. He is intelligent and speaks well, so the UFC saw him as a good poster boy/ambassador for the sport. When Sylvia speaks, he either bashes other fighters, or bashes other fighters then says he would KO them. Look how many times Mir has been a commentator...you think the UFC would ever let Sylvia in the booth?

To the UFC, Mir is more marketable, so he is the favorite

Mir is just a better guy. He doesn't talk smack and doesn't bash other fighters.

(and he broke sylvia's arm - which makes a lot of people love him for that alone)

Mir is loved because of the tear he was on before his accident. Snapping Sylvia's arm was one of the most memorable moments in UFC history. At his UFC debut he demolished Tank, another fan favorite. Basically, Mir's fights are very memorable, whereas only Sylvia's hair and trashtalk live on.

I like Frank Mir because of his attitutde about submissions.

And on top of that he seems like a real laid back cool guy. Tim seems like a big duece bag who wheres sunglasses inside, and carrys that damn belt everywhere he goes. I don't base anything on the two off when they fought. But I still like Mir a whole lot better.

Tank wasn't Mir's debut.

ps. Regarding the thought that if Mir>Sylvia due to his win Hallman>Hughes the difference is timeline - the sub was recent. That said I'd still like to see a rematch.

Mir's debut was against Pete Williams where he locked in that shoulder lock. He was coming off a loss to Freeman I think before the Tank fight.

Mir is a better person than Sylvia. Simple as. But Sylvia is a better fighter tho in my opinion, and hopefully Sylvia will get the chance to prove this eventually!

Wrong debut again: his debut was Roberto Traven @ UFC 34.
