Mirko is a great fighter and an all time favorite of mine.

But his TD defense IMO has always been over-rated. The example people always give is the Coleman fight. But people forget that Coleman has been getting his takedowns stuffed ever since he fought Mo smith.

It is still great, but Wand, Fedor, Barnett, Saku, Nog, Barnett all have taken mirko down.

Hes defense is still good ... but when comparing him so say Chuck or GSP he doesnt stack up IMO.

Well there was the money/respect issue, but you see my point surely.

CroCop didn't get beat because the competition was much better, he didn't prepare to fight in a cage, expected to kill everyone with his kicks and he got taken out of his element by GG and ko'ed after the standup by ironically his signature kick with the opposite leg. He got taken to a decision by Kongo, kneed in the balls and had his ribs broken.

If the competition was so much better as the person I quoted suggest how come he wasn't downed by one punch like Randleman by Kongo or submitted as soon as he got taken down by GG. It's a fight orgs are irrelevant, at that level styles make fights and best man wins on a day, as we've seen jiu jitsu guys and wrestlers (GG - Rashad) can get head kick ko's, strikers can submit people. Just because a guy gets beat once or twice doesn't erase his past accomplishments.

Remember 2 Pride rejects are the MW and LHW champs. Why didn't Randy stick around collect an easy payday to beat Big Nog and CroCop if there was such a gross difference in talent? He could've destroyed the Pride "myth"... Oh wait he chose to decide the only fight he wants is a fighter his employer failed to sign after the deal was a definite no go and sever all ties with the company, speaks volumes wouldn't you say?

Yep....you're right my friend. Mirko completely dominated Kongo on the ground...moving from one submission attempt to the other.....oh...wait a minute.....no he didn't. He looked completely lost like he was trying to remember how to do an armbar from a DVD he'd seen 11 years ago at a friend's house. And this happened even though he was getting his arse well and truly kicked in the stand up.

Mirko did get blasted TWICE in the Fuckin Nuts by Kongo, that'll definitly slow a mada fucka down. Had the vicious Knee's to the junk not occured on two seperate occasions I think Mirko could have taken this fight.

The loss the Gabe though was impressive by Gonzo' Took Mirko down and took advantage of Cops' inexpeirence to the cage. and in Reality Herb never should have stood the fighters up because Gabe was workin those Bows!.
