Steroids: Kids worrying about the UFC's image.

Yep, another steroid thread.

First off, steroid scandals are involved in every professional sport, and never impact peoples image of the organization an athlete plays for, or the sport in general. It just tarnishes the athlete. MMA fans will never stop liking MMA, and if you think the UFC will lose it's sanctioning or media coverage over this kind of thing, you're insane. Just so long as the UFC plays by the State laws, the fighters will always take the brunt of the media assault for cheating.

As for all the "Dana/Zuffa blaming", and demanding the UFC fix this we see on Sherdog, it's fucking SHERDOG! This is the most retardedly biased, anti-UFC forum in existence. This forum as a collective has managed to blame everything that's ever gone wrong with anything in MMA on Dana/The UFC.

The attention this kind of thing gets on a biased, no integrity, journalistic cesspool like Sherdog is not reflective of the opinions of the people who are actually pushing MMA into the mainstream. There will always be critics of the sport and they'll always have ammo, and guys like Dana know how futile it is to try to act on everything they criticise.

The point is that the sport's legitimacy is safe, this issue is already getting all the attention it needs, and steroids will likely always exist in MMA. Get over it.

Sherdog is not the only place where people have this opinion.

UFC president Dana White has maintained that his organization "hasn't been that bad" when it comes to its fighters using steroids, but the UFC also has chosen to keep the drug issue at arm's length. It failed to ensure drug testing this year at UFC 69 in Houston and UFC 72 in Northern Ireland and has relied on athletic commissions in California and Nevada to conduct testing at events.

Unlike the NFL, NBA and Major League Baseball, the UFC does not drug test its athletes.

"Our policy on fighters using steroids, illegal drugs or any banned substance remains the same — you cannot use them," White said. "It's not only unhealthy and unsafe, it is against the law. The UFC fully supports the commission's efforts, and we will continue to take measures that keep this sport clean and keep the athletes safe."

The UFC has had no comment about the Sherk and Franca tests and likely will wait until the appeals process unfolds before making a decision on Sherk's champion status.
