Statistical Light HeavyWeight Rankings: Top 20

Here is a statisctal formula I created to measures fighters based only on the facts. In order to keep it current the stats only go back 3 years. So whatever a fighter did in 2003 isn't reflected. I know this isn't a perfect formula so feel free to make suggestions.

I applied it to the HW top ten in a previous thread Statistical HW Rankings and got a few request to apply it the LHW division. This time I expanded it to the top 20 based on my personal rankings. If you disagree with a fighters placement in the rankings just adjust his point total accordingly. For example if you don't think Tito is top ten then subtract 250 from his point total.

Possible Points:

Fight Record:
- For every win a fighter is awarded 100 points.
Bonus Points:
- Ending fight by submission or ko (50)
- Beating Top Ten fighter (100), Top Five (200).
- Deductions: (-80) for losing to non-top ten, (-50) for top ten, (-15) for top five. Additional (-50) for losing by sub or ko.

Example: A ko over Fedor would yield a fighter a total of 350 points. 100 for win, 50 for the ko, and 200 for beating a top 5 fighter.

Win Percentage:

- A fighter recieves points based on their career win percentage(at least 15 fights to qualify). 100% - 1000 pts; 95-99% - 950 pts; 90-94% - 900 pts; 85 - 89%; 850 pts and so on down to 60-64% - 600pts.

- A undefeated fighter with at least 10 fights but no the 15 to qualify recieves 200 pts.

Top Ten Ranking:

I based my formula on MMAWeekly's Top Ten.

- Ranked 6-10 - 250 pts
- Ranked 1-5 - 500 pts

Belts and Tourny's:

- Current UFC/Pride Champ (500pts), former champ having won the belt in the last 3 yrs
(250pts)
- Winning a Pride Grand Prix within past 3 yrs (250pts)
- Belts from non-UFC/Pride orgs (250pts), 100 pts to those having previously won a belt in these orgs in last 3 yrs

interesting system, i like that you don't count all wins equally. Of course it's not perfect, but interesting....

Why aren't they ranked by total points? What's the final method of evaluation?

hey this is a great start... obviously has a few problems and needs to be tweaked, but something systematic like this is nice.

manhoef has more total points than wandy.... definitely needs tweaking so the points more accurately reflect rank

for example age of win should give diminishing return, and no top ten return on someone who is now top ten but wasn't then

So, the rankings are simply your opinion and the numbers below are the results of your calculations?
