sports illustrated: mma too brutal?
sports illustrated had an issue (last month i believe) raising the question as to whether mma was too brutal. even the editor claimed that it was just a fad and would pass.
in the next month's responses, some mom claimed that it was too violent, claiming that it was hard for schools to keep violence out when kids were so into wrestling(the fake wwe nonsense) icons. i doubt she even knew what she was talking about, cause i dont know any elementary school kids watching mma.
anyways, i strongly believe that mma is an amazing sport. it's not a fad, and i dont see it dying out anytime soon, if at all.
a couple months back some ho friend of mine said mma was stupid and said it wasnt a sport. i logically tore her up and in her pathetic defense said i was too defensive. i dont see anything defensive about saying that it requires practice, heart, skill, and determination and is a physically exerting so it's qualified as a sport.
thoughts/anything to add?

Who cares what some chick thinks about mma. That's like me arguing with her whether Gray's Anatomy is a good show.

Sports dont die, even bowls will always have its followers. They become fads in terms of changing popularity, at the moment the big thing is mma, the current fad, but thats the natural cycle of things. There are rises and falls and nothing is going to fade away.
People constantly go on about boxing being dead but in reality thats nonsense,
16,000+ tickets were sold in first 12 hours for the Calzaghe-Kessler world super middleweight title Unification fight which takes place November 3 at the 76,000-seat Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. That's already 90% of the total sold for De La Hoya-Mayweather!
Coming soon,
On October 13th, world heavyweight champions Sultan Ibragimov and Ruslan Chagaev will not only achieve their dream of unifying the heavyweight crown, they will get to do it in front of an expected crowd of over 14,000 at the Khodynka Arena in Moscow

People are entitled to their own opinion, but don't go trying to get a sport banned because you cannot properly parent your children from reenacting the moves in school.

It had to do with, "the editor claimed that it was just a fad and would pass."
So regarding sports dying, being fads, too brutal for consumption, outdated, minority sports, lets look at the evidence.
People constantly say boxings dead. They are people who have a gripe, no interest or no knowledge of it. When actually lots of things are happening and the sport is ticking along nicely. Perhaps its not the biggest thing at the top of the sporting headlines at the moment but whether its the current fad, the in thing, whether its derided for its brutality or forgotten about by the man in the street, it will never die or stop happening in a big way amongst the people that follow it. So who cares if sports illustrated say mma is toobrutal or people say it is a fad, rest assured if you like it you will always be able to follow it, if you like it why should it matter if another 10 million like it or not, just enjoy it rather than wanting to be in the in crowd!
