MMA and the feeling out process . . .

In MMA the feeling out process needs to be curtailed by rules and refs. You see, in boxing the fighters can spend the first round just dancing around and getting a feel for one another. This is fine in a twelve round fight. But in MMA, if the first three minutes of a three rd. fight are spent "feeling out" the other, well that represents twenty percent of the fight. Just as inactivity on the ground stands the fight up, perhaps inactivity standing up should put the fight on the ground. Any thoughts?

The should do away with stand ups altogether. Some fights are going to be boring on the ground or on the feet. Thats why this is a sport and not sports entertainment like WWE. Rules forcing an unatural fight progression for the sole sake of entertainment value taint the legitimacy of the sport.

I agree in principle... but the underlying assumption is that there IS a fight progression. Stand-ups often occur when such an element is lacking.

I see nothing wrong with creating rules that force fighters to engage. The idea is to force a fight to happen, not create entertainment.

Its part of the fight! this would be almost like making them stand up everytime it goes to the ground.

the whole meaning to the word sport is recreation and pleasure. every sport is done in front of a crowd in order to provide entertainment. if you're worried about the legitimacy of mma then they should get rid of time limits and rounds.

absolute bullshit.

and almost every sport has rules to help progression of the game for entertainment purpose.

sports are in fact spectator events. sports are in fact entertainment. athletes only get paid because of people willing to pay to BE ENTERTAINED.
