A lot of the time there is arguments about how one should rank the top three LHW's in the world, but I'm certain the most people would agree that the fighters are Wandy, Chuck and Shogun (no particular order). Probably the majority of rankings around (as far as I have seen) have the order as

1 Chuck Liddell
2 Mauricio "Shogun"
3 Wanderlei Silva

Even as a Shogun fan I have no problem with this because I have huge respect for Chuck Liddell especially considering he's beaten 2 of my favorites in Renato "Babalu" and Randy twice, not to mention the fact that he has looked unstoppable. I will no doubt be cheering for "the iceman" if he fights Rampage (even though I like Page as well).

BUT I'm just curious as to what Shogun has to do to be considered the number 1 LHW because as far as I can tell he has beaten better LHW's then anyone else in the division. He beat Overeem, Rampage, Arona, Rogerio Nogueira and recently Nakamura - all top ten fighters IMO.

I realize he lost to Babalu but that was around the same time Chuck lost to Rampage so I dont see that as the simple reason Shogun is below Liddell, Shogun has come a long way since then as well.

I'm not looking for a nuthuggers debate and for reasons Liddell would beat Shogun because that isnt what determines rankings (eg most believe Aleks would beat Sylvia, but Sylvia is usually ranked ahead). Just wondering what does Shogun need to do to be considered number 1. Is a rematch with Babalu the only way? Your thoughts?

If there is a middle weight GP this year and he wins it he would be #1 or if he went to the UFC and beat Chuck he would also be #1. Him begin #2 has nothing to do with Babalu.

If you PRIDE nuthuggers say Chuck can't be number one because he hasn't fought Wandy or Shogun, then Shogun can't be number one either since he hasn't fought Chuck or Wandy. Wandy can't be either since he hans't fought Chuck or Shogun.

Tito fought 2 out of the 3. I guess he must be number one.

Shogun has to beat Chuck to be #1 in the public eye. I think that Shogun, based on his wins, should already be #1 but Chuck beats up on overrated grapplers in the UFC and has an look of invincibility. Rampage will hopefully bring him back to earth

I consider Shogun to be the number 1 LHW of the world, his win of the GP was incredible and how defeated every top LHW´s fighters, with the exception of Wandy and Lidell, so to the people that doesn´t think he is number 1, I think he just needs to defeat one guy, and that is Chuck Lidell, well also Wandy but I´m pretty sure they won´t fight each other.

I think Rua would've been number one, if not for that slip up with Coleman.

He hasn't been on top as long, but he's competing in a deeper and more diverse talent pool. It'll take a couple more matches before he can reclaim the top spot.
