So Mccully is a bjj black belt???

I could've sworn last night I heard goldie or rogan mention that mccull is a black belt.

Maybe he had a bad case of nerves, but in all honesty, i've seen fighters with lower grappling credentials then that look much better on the ground then he did.

Who did he get is black belt from? Did he earn it in a legit way? How has he faired in grappling tournaments.

Sorry for all hte questions, but i'm always skeptical of things i hear from the ufc hype machine.

It all depends on who he trains under to get that blackbelt. Its very different it all is determined on what is taught and how it was taught and who he learned it from. There really are all sorts of degrees in blackbelts I would say, I've seen better blue and brown belts than some blackbelts in mma.

I only remember hearing that Hardonk had a blue belt under Rickson. If I remember correctly, I saw a Rickson JJ logo on his trunks too. No way either of them are black belts. BJJ isn't Karate or TKD; at least not yet anyways. I think that Hardonk looked bad even for a blue belt. By the time you reach blue belt level, especially under Rickson, you should be able to pull off armbars and simple chokes with and without a gi. I was also disappointed with McCulley's grappling abilities as well. Especially for how long he has trained with Tito and Team Punishment. Both guys were disappointing for this level of MMA competition.

No. They said several times that McCully was a BJJ black belt. They even said the name of the guy he got the belt under. Forget his name since I had never heard of him before.

I do believe I heard it as well, and as stated in another thread at least Hardonk tried something BJJ-like.
