Silva never intended to fight at 205 lbs

I got an interview with Anderson Silva yesterday. He said he never intended to fight at 205 pounds and that he was doing it because of a personal request from Dana White. He said he plans to go back to 185 pounds after this fight against Irvin because the 205-pound division belongs to his teammate Lyoto Machida. He said he has 7 fights left on his contract with the UFC, then he plans to fight Roy Jones Jr. in a boxing match.

Silva on the UFC going up against Affliction's PPV card on the same night:

“I don’t feel it’s competition. It’s just the globalization of MMA and the UFC is still the biggest one. It’s just drawing more attention to MMA. It’s up to them to put on a good show and it’s up to the UFC to live up to it’s name.

“It’s not necessarily Dana trying to put Affliction down. He is just doing his job as a businessman and a promoter. That’s what he has got to do to protect his company. The result is going to be what comes out of July 19. Affliction has got a great card, but I hope that UFC Fight Night 14 comes out great.”

Silva is the man, such a respectable dude.

Too bad that this is his only fight at 205, I'm really curious to see how far he'd get.

So Anderson Silva fighting at 205 is just a publicity stunt aimed at drawing attention away from Affliction? Go figure.

That meathead said that it's because Anderson Silva wants to fight all the time. He made it sound like he couldn't keep Silva from moving up.

Dana White always makes fun of affliction, and now he's asking his best fighters to step up so the UFC fans don't turn their back on him. What a douche. What happened to "this guy is selling fuckin T-Shirts! There's no competition!"?
