Just a thought about ground knees and UFC

I agree with common opinion, knees on the ground are really needed. Because without them you get lazy take down attempts without any punishment for missing. Ala Deigo vs Alessio

but I was thinking if they did allow knees on the ground in UFC it would be different (and much more dangerous) than knees on the ground in Pride.

The reason is in the UFC you can pin the guy up against the cage and GNP. Can you imagine someone getting pushed against the caged and GnP'd and once he tries to escape he gets his head trapped against the cage and kneed? I have to say those are not the type of knees on the ground that are good for the sport.
Of course in the ring there is nothing to pin the fighter up against.

And I'd expect GnP fighters to add this one into their arsenal.

thoughts?

I know that Cage Rage at last used to have what was called open guard. How it worked was that there was a circle in the center of the cage where if a fighter was down and the ref called open guard then soccer kicks and I believe stomps were legal. Now all that the athletic commissions would have to do to allow knees on the ground would be to institute a similar rule.

That's a great idea.
