Something we may be all overlooking is leg kicks. Sherk also has very underrated low kicks. If you go back and watch his fight with GSP, Sherk was landing some really sweet kicks. Technically, I think Sean is the more complete stand up fighter.

Technique wise it's possible he has a marginal edge over Penn, but he never really sustains any type of standup attack because they're always used to setup the double leg. And he certainly doesn't have comparable power.
Although if you watch his fight with GSP- the only fight where he really HAD to stand the entire time- he does a good job, all things considered, despite the lack of reach.

hahaha i love it when people throw around the "crispier boxing" term when they don't even know what it means.
When have we ever seen Sherk displaying his crisp boxing in a match? All I see is, him shooting in on someone, taking them down, and laying on them.

Big John said BJ had the best BJJ in MMA and I think he does too.

Being a "technical" boxer isnt the be all and end all when it comes to hands in the ufc. Look at chuck, wanderlei etc.
Sherk always looks competent in stand up exchanges but I think Bj has vastly superior striking, much more effective, very unorthodox but probably pound for pound the most dangerous striker in the ufc. If he's not then he's second behind the anderson.

if sherk throws a single low kick im pretty sure he is gonna get taken down. And if sherk ends up on his back, i guarantee the fight is over for him.

he really is. i dont know why all the hate for sherk, even before the roids. hes a great fighter with pretty good standup. has a problem dealing with reach though.

I would agree with you here, although BJ's lack of kicks seems to be by choice for whatever reason...
If you watch Penn's training videos, there's a spot in one of them where he says something to the effect of "and you can kick from here, too, if you like kicks", almost as if to say he doesn't really consider kicking to be something he's interested in. It's a little strange, as Penn has incorporated almost every other aspect of fighting into his arsenal. Even his elbows look to be vastly improved from the past. I'm wondering if he sees kicking as opening too many opportunities for an opponent, or if he simply sees training them as a mute point at this stage of his career...
Sherk probably has the technical edge in striking, but Penn will have the speed and power to more than make up for this... He was even able to catch the incredibly quick Machida with some hard shots.
If Sherk tries to outpoint Penn in a striking match I believe he will either be TKOed or lose via decision, but this might actually be his best strategy going in to this fight. Strike with Penn until Penn has tired a bit, then go for the takedowns and hope he fairs better than Hughes from top position against the very dynamic likes of one BJ Penn.
