It's quite obvious who has the better record.

It's quite obvious you interpret rankings based on your own system. I guess the two year system only applies to BJ. You should pass that along, it's unique and not at all biased.

See below for a long drawn out explanation.
JZ was top 3 in the world and a favorite to win the tournament when Aoki beat him. Uno was probably top 10 or close to it having had a good run in the tournament. Nagata may not be anything special, but regardless of to whom it was applied, a top side gogo was unheard of (as I recall Bas didn't even know what it was). Alvarez was #1 or 2 on most LW lists.
Hansen was fresh off of a 2 minute KO over Gill when he came in against an exhausted Aoki. Hellboy got to the finals by walking through a C level fighter, Aoki had a war with an A level fighter. A fight like that doesn't prove a whole lot about either man other than that they should reevaluate their decision to do 2 rounds of a tournament in a night. When they fought in 2006 and both men were fresh Aoki introduced MMA fans to the gogo at hellboy's expense.

----- Number 2?
Aoki: Yeah, #2. Because honestly, BJ Penn is #1. The UFC being on top is an undeniable fact. No one can deny that
----- So you're giving credit where credit is due?
Aoki: Yes. Because he's good (laughter) BJ is really good. I think he's the best pound-for-pound fighter.

Fedor: i am not the best fighter
Anderson: i am not the best fighter
GSP: Fedor is the #1 pfp fighter
guess what all 3 are always being argued to be put at #1 spot

Is it really so ridiculous to consider Aoki or BJ the #1 LW fighter in the world?
Why are people getting their panties in a bunch? A case can be made for either fighter.

Actually, it's a three year period... which almost all MMA websites use to judge fighters. Aoki is 10-1-1 in 3 years at LW, Penn is only 3-0-0.
You've only made yourself look like an even bigger troll.

Lest we forget Hansen punched Aoki in the throat as well?

I just have a few questions about the top ten. First off, what's up with the LW's? I'm glad to see KenFlo getting more credit, but what's up with JZ being ranked ahead of Sherk? The guy has fought twice in 2008, one being a NC, and the other being a loss to the same guy. I can see how some might feel that Joachim, Eddie, and Shinya are higher ranked than Sherk (something that I differ on), but JZ hasn't done nearly as much as Sherk lately, and his only impressive win is against Vitor Ribeiro well over a year ago.
Also, what's with Tatsuya Kawajiri still being in the top ten, yet Gilbert Melendez, Mitsuhiro Ishida, and Caol Uno are nowhere to be found? The last time Kawajiri finished someone was over two years ago, and he lost to Melendez in his next fight. The three fighter's I mentioned above all deserve to be in the top ten over Tatsuya, and even they fall short of making the top ten IMO. The number ten spot is pretty hard to place right now with Ishida losing via armbar to Uno, so I'll have to put Nate Diaz in that spot; Nate had three impressive victories last year, and has finished stand wrestler Gray Maynard.
Here's my top ten LW (Hansen, Aoki, and Alvarez could really be placed in any particular order):
1. BJ Penn
2. Sean Sherk
3. Joachim Hansen
4. Shinya Aoki
5. Eddie Alvarez
6. Gesias Calvancante
7. Josh Thomson
8. Kenny Florian
9. Satoru Kitaoka
10. Nate Diaz
Other little things that stood out to me were how AA all of a sudden is the #2 HW in the world , and how Ben Rothwell and Alistair Overeem bump off Fabricio Werdum and Junior Dos Santos...
|
dude, you were so on to something, until i saw ya have Nate Diaz at 10
and who would u think should be #2 HW? only other person it could be would be Barnett, and still no.

Why do people constantly judge a fighter's ranking in a division by ONLY there wins at the weight? Sherk is a beast, and his record shows it. BJ Penn's inside the octagon speak for themselves. Alvarez beats Kawajiri, and Hansen.....and all of a sudden his stock goes through the roof?! Kawajiri had been beaten up by Melendez, and Hansen lost to Eiji???...riiiiight! Real top ten material there. I've liked Aoki for quite some time, but he's gotten cocky lately. He calls out Penn, but has no intention of proving "Japanese MMA is the best" by coming over to the UFC and fighting THE BEST. Sorry to burst your bubble, but from what I've seen lately the UFC has the best fighter's in every division. This is coming from a Pride fanboy, too.
