Well, I think the whole point of this thread is that the LW"top 10" rankings are a joke. I think they will work themselves out in time (the other rankings are good for the most part). But for now I am just talking about abilities.

Consider that in 37 fights, he has lost only three times

Now consider who those three losses were to:

- Matt Hughes - he lost a decision to a much larger Hughes who was UFC champ and #1 in the world

- GSP - Again, a larger opponant that went on to dominate everyone in the deepest division in MMA

-BJ

If you are going to lose to three people, those losses aren't going to hurt you.

Now look at his last five fights:

- He beat Nick Diaz who 10 months later dominated the #1 LW ranked LW in the world

- He dominated Kenny Florian who is a top level fighter and gave him his only LW loss

- He dominated Hermes Franca who is a very tough and underappreciated fighter

- Lost to BJ Penn who is the #1 ranked LW in the world

- Defeated Tyson Griffin who is a very very tough fighter

The Joe Stevensons, Kenny Florians, Tyson Griffins, and Nate Diaz's will be top ten fighters very soon. But since the UFC LW division is so young, there is a circle of Japanese fighters that have been passing the rankings around among themselves for years. They don't dare come and fight in the UFC, and when they do, they lose. (see Aurelio, Mishima, Gomiand Sakurai) The rankings will gradually fall into place, but for now, they don't mean a whole lot.

He beat Florian before he beat anyone reputable.

Your other points are utterly irrelevant to rankings, it's about ACCOMPLISHMENTS not "LOL UFC IS BEST. USA! USA! USA!"-bullshit.

Your ranks suck.

Aoki will take the #1 spot if he wins rematch against Hansen.

Theres a problem... why is sherk #2.... what has he done recently to deserve that? He lost to Penn after being over confident and could not finish Griffon.

UFC needs to make Faber come to LW... could be interesting to see how he stacks up.

Shinya Aoki

- 2008 record: 5-1 (1 NC)
- Went the distance with ranked JZ and an always tough Uno (who had finished ranked Ishida earlier in the year)
- The loss to Hansen was after a grueling war with Uno the same night
So Sherk's last 5 opponants: Nick Diaz, Kenny Florian, Hermes Franca, BJ Penn, and Tyson Griffin are all chumps, but Aoki fights "the always tough" Caol Uno?

And..... Aoki "goes the distance" with JZ and Uno, yet Sherk "hasn't finished" his fights?

Also, don't forget that BJ Penn, the guy that beat Sherk "badly" also destroyed the "always tough" Uno in even more fantastic fashion.

Yeah the only one we've really seen in the UFC is Marcus Aurelio and he's been pretty mediocre. But apart from putting Gomi to sleep he was pretty mediocre in Pride too so it doesn't prove much.

What has Sherk done to be ranked in the Top 10, let alone in the Top 3? He's 3-1-0 at LW, with his biggest win coming over Tyson Griffin. For that matter, what has B.J. Penn done to be ranked #1? If you're going by the whole "3 Year Only"-marker like most sites do, Penn is only 3-0-0 at LW.

Aoki deserves to be #1, he's 10-1-1 in 3 years, with three Top 5 wins.
ok... You see Aoki as the best LW at the moment... does it mean, that You think he´s better than a present-day BJ or KenFlo???

If BJ Penn didn't have the LW belt, he wouldn't be ranked #1. Which doesn't make sense, how does having a belt make you any better a fighter?
