Rumor: Dana White bringing up the Feathweight Division?

A friend of mine told me that starting next year, Dana White will be bringing in the Featherweight division into the UFC. I guess with all the injuries to the fighters lately, Dana is scrambling to find main events and title fights.

Is there any truth to this rumor? I'd love to see him bring up Urijah Faber, Mike Brown, Jose Aldo and the other FWs from WEC into the UFC.

I think a FW division in the UFC would be exciting since I find the fights on WEC cards to be way more action packed than UFC fights.

Maybe some FW Fights. Can't expect them to throw the WEC under like that.

The fact is if you put solid 135 and 145Lb guys on a card it's going to make for some excitement. The WEC would still be fine if the UFC picked up 135 and 145 and took all the top fighters.

I'm tired of the duality of the situation.

The fact that MTB made 15k for the last fight (reported, I know blah blah) is pitiful. In the UFC he'd gotten probably 3x the sponsorship money and 5x the purse. These fighters are at the top of the food chain and deserve the pay and exposure offered by the UFC name. Making them 2nd rate because they weight less is just asinine.

To boost ratings they should do MMA multiple opponents and pit 5 fetherweights against a heavyweight! Would be totally awesome! Just imagine Kongo KOing two FWs the fcuk out only to be smuthered taken down and submitted via two arm bars and a rear naked choke!

they won't. however i think that the wec needs to get rid of the lightweight division. the wec should only have weight classes that the ufc doesnt. Also they should hurry and add the flyweight div.

I heard that the UFC and WEC might merge. I hope they do because the WEC fighters deserve more respect....there are some sick mofo's in the WEC.

I doubt this will happen anytime soon, fighter contracts and tv deals would make it difficult.

Right so dana and the WEC just signed a new deal on versus, and according to you he is now talking about taking the wec's best division and putting it in the UFC..... Because that makes alot of buisness sense right?

It's only a matter of time before Dana cashes in on the crazy story lines of Bowles and Aldo and realizes there is huge money to be made in these super exciting fights.

It'd be great to see these guys make some actual money instead of just getting all the free energy drinks they can drink after the fight.
