Rua doesn't get to be champion because Joe Rogan says so

I thought Shogun won, but it was not as clear cut as everyone is saying. I think most people are losing their minds because Joe Rogan was clearly biased for Rua. For example, in one exchange Machida hit shogun with a three punch/2 kick combo and Rua responded with a right hand that backed Machida off...and Rogan talked about the right hand for a few minutes, like Rua won the exchange. The truth is that judges in boxing and MMA tend to be pretty biased towards champions and a few of those rounds were pretty close, so I'm not surprised they went to Machida. I probably would have scored the fight differently, but I'm not shocked at the outcome, Machida was outpointed, not dominated. If you didn't spend 25 minutes listening to Rogan gush about Rua, you probably wouldn't be shocked either.

I agree. I had it 3 rounds to 2 for Shogun, but could easily see Machida winning one of the close rounds and getting the nod

You just said machida was out pointed. Nowhere in any rule is there a champions get special points rule. They get two extra rounds. That's what they get.

Shogun's performance was better. He should be champion

Correct Shogun put on a very good performance but just not what he needed to take the title away. This is MMA like boxing he needed to drop Machida on his ass a few times more and put up an are you blind performance to take the title away he did nether. Not to worry because this setup a rematch that could happen in just a few months between the two.

Rogan was defenitely biased. "To be the champ you need to beat the champ" which has been around in all combat sports forever, unwritten rules do exist. I didnt think either fighter did significant damgage to the other, no wobbly legs, no knockdowns, nothing. So the champ is still the champ.

I thought Rua won the fight too, but there is no denying that Joe Rogan's biased commentary is getting annoying. In the Okami fight all he talked about was Shonnen. Whenever the other announcer guy mentioned Okami landing a good hit Rogan would immediatly respond with something about Shonnen landing a good hit too, as if it was an arguement or something, and he was trying to make him shut up about anything Okami was doing.

Did you ever see the first Penn v. St. Pierre fight? BJ looked a little tired and St. Pierre looked like the elephant man, but all of BJ's damage was done in round 1...so he lost the fight. Rua clearly won rounds 4 and 5 but that isn't enough, and Machida looked at the end is not indicative of anything.

The point I tried to make about being outpointed is that it seemed as though Rua had a slight edge in 2 of the 3 early rounds. Rua connecting on one more jab doesn't mean he won the round, this isn't strict point fighting. Other factors are weighed, in this instance, I think the judges wanted to see a dominant round to shift the balance to Shogun...and the only dominant rounds were 4 and 5.
