Ronys Torres and his grueling weight cut

Graciemag International Ronys and his worst enemy in the UFC

Ronys loses up to 18kg (40lbs) to fight.

After his debut was twice postponed due to injuries, Ronys Torres is now in the United States, where he will finally get his shot in the UFC octagon. This Saturday in Las Vegas the Jiu-Jitsu black belt will face Melvin Guillard. And if some feel just having to fight someone with 41 wins on his record is a challenge enough, Ronys has a different account of who his main opponent is.

“Fight time is the easiest. I’m going through the most difficult time right now, which is to lose weight. I’ve lost 11kg (24lbs) so far and have just seven more to go. It will be alright, ” the fighter told GRACIEMAG.com.

Ronys drops 18 kg (40 lbs) to make the lightweight division (70 kg). An exhausting task. On the day of weighing in, he hopes he’ll need to lose just 3 kg. The fighter says that, after the sacrifice of weighing in, he is able to recover up to 12 kg before fighting.

“There’s no way around it. I try to keep light, but after my fight is out of the way I can’t help it, I eat a lot,” he says, explaining the cause of his predicament.

Aside from the work left to do in shedding weight, everything else he needs for his UFC debut to go through smoothly has been done. .

“I’ve done everything I need to. My head’s in the right place and I’m chill. I’ll do my best and come back with the win. God willing, everything will be OK, “he concludes.

This is absurd. There needs to be more regulation on weight cutting. Its going to take some kid killing himself trying to do this for people to realize how terrible this is.

Even if he can do it, what does he prove? If he wins his fight it just means that he can win a fight in a weightclass below his proper one. Its very cowardly

Weigh-Ins on the day of.
This change has to be made.

Its to the point that now people are clearly abusing the system.
Recovering 12kg before fight time means hes a MW fighting LW's. Pathetic.

I'm 100% for same day weigh-ins.

Somebody will eventually die from this.

UM NO
every1 cuts
almost every 155 weighs around 165-170 before cutting
even the little guys who used to fight at 145 like joe lauzon weigh 168 precut
joe daddy, melvin, tibau, tyson griffin, all cut at least 10 -15 pounds

Just like all WW actually weigh around 180-195 precut

Get over it
