Renato "Babalu" Sobral Update

In Ceaser Gracie's "False Positive" Thread, I kept asking about Babalu (Since I was able to attend a Seminar last year with Babalu at Gracies academy)

And Ceaser had this to say:

Here's some news on Babalu. He is moving to the U.S. in 1 week and will be cross training with Team Quest in
Temecula and with Chuck Liddell in SLO. At some point we will have him back for sure."

False Positive

Hopefully Babalu gets back on the right winning track, and gets back to his roots of Vale Tudo / Wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu..

Sounds to me like he's decided he'll never be champ until Chuck is gone.....at best.

Thanks for the Update. I've heard lots of speculation that since he has lost his last 2 fights he might not be around the UFC much longer. What's everyones take? I think he is a great fighter, and he really just beat himself in both of those fights by being sloppy.

It was much needed..

He had a gameplan against Chuck, but did not follow through with it because he got excited when he hit Chuck, he thought he may had stunned Chuck, and we all know what happened after that.. He chased someone that's known for his counter punching, and down he went (and almost tried to submit Big John, might I add).

His last fight, was disappointing, but when he got blasted at the end of the 1st, he was done for.. He should have abandoned the RNC and before he tired himself out trying to sink it..

I'm very surprised, can't believe he's gonna train with Liddell. Should be a recipe for success though, training with two top notch camps.

Cool that he has decided to train with Chuck, kinda like when Sakuraba trained with Chute Boxe.

Hope everything works out for him.

Babalu could learn a lot of striking from Chuck.

And Chuck could probably benefit from learning matwork from Babalu.

Given that there's not likely to be Chuck/Babalu III given that both previous fights ended in one-sided highlight reel knockouts, sounds like a good idea for both guys.

Liddell and the guys at Pit would be a perfect compliment for Babalu if he is to rematch Shogun.
