Regarding Fedor, A Little Patience Please?
There is endless speculation about whether or not and when Fedor might jump into the MMA vortex that is the UFC. Discussions about contract/salary issues, org loyalty issues and, recently, discussion about Fedor 'going down as the measuring stick.'
Quoting someone from that thread: "Fedor is MMA."
I couldn't agree more, and he's not 'going down' as anything anytime soon.
With Pride in purgatory, and given that Fedor has been fighting on a fight by fight freelance basis, his ONE fight with Bodog in St. Petersburg - his first since 2001 and his only fight as a superstar in his HOME COUNTRY - was perfectly reasonable and should be of no threat to anyone who might fear that Fedor will henceforth be fighting MMA's lower classes.
With all the HW talent converging in the UFC, though, most MMA fans won't be satisfied with any dominating champion unless they also settle up with Fedor. Think Rocky V.
Fedor may have largely exhausted his competition in Pride - and many able bodied fighters didn't feel up to the task - but I think there are plenty of UFC fighters with the stones to jump at the opportunity to fight him.
I can't imagine the complexities of one sports organization acquiring another, dealing with all the contracts, legalities, and practical issues such as communication.
It's taking a while - longer than Dana expected, and longer than we all prefer - but the dust is going to settle in its own time.
Relax. We haven't seen the last of Fedor, and I think the best is yet to come.
