Wanderlei's Hypoxia Training looks crazy...

I just checked out Wandy's Hypoxia training video on the UFC website and I wanted to know if there are any other fighters who are using this technique and have recently fought?

It looks like torture but Wanderlei is a beast so I'm not questioning his cardio or anything but I just wanted to know if other fighters are known to use this technique to see how their cardio has been for them during a fight.

I think he is pioneering another training technique for mma fighters. I think the cuban boxing team was using it first.

Its where you restrict the air intake while training. Wand wears a snorkle while having his nose taped shut. Creates massive lactic acid build up. Supposed to give you insane endurance and stamina.

I dunno about other sports, but this has been done in swimming for awhile...for swimming it strengthens your lungs and helps breath control.

Altitude training is the same idea. If your body is in a hypoxic (oxygen deprived) state while you are training, you will get fatigued and lactic acid will build up much faster. Your body adapts to this, so that under normal circumstances, your body is even more efficient at maintaining stamina. Whether Wand's is the best way or not, I think it's a good method of oxygen-deprivation training short of going up to a mountain to train
