People often complain about how American fans sometimes boo the fights, but why would these critics refuse to acknowledge the fact that Americans also cheer more enthusiastically than their Japanese counterparts? Why only include the negative half of the story? American enthusiasm works both ways. Why concentrate on the boos instead of the cheers? Why? What could you possibly gain by defaming the American audience?
There is something to be said for the enthusiasm of an audience when 15,000 American fans can be as lively as 50,000 Japanese fans. American fans are there for every slam, for every elbow, for every thud, crack, and twist. How many times to Sean Sherk pick up Ueyama and slam him into the mat, only to receive a very dull and unenthusiastic response from the audience? Sherk would need to do such a move only once before being showered in appreciation by American fans. Far from the perception of an ignorant audience, the American fans routinely cheer on submission attempts; it doesn't take a genius to realize this.
American fans will cheer exciting fighters all the same; Cheick Kongo got a wild reception after his decimation of Christian Wellisch. Andrei Arlovski and St. Pierre are huge fan favorites; the only time I've heard boos for St. Pierre is when he fought at the USA vs. Canada card. Well, no shit. He's fighting on the USA vs. Canada card; the Americans are supposed to cheer for the American fighters, and the Canadians are supposed to cheer for the Canadian fighters.
But I suppose this is one side of the story that the anti-American, anti-UFC crowd would never want you to hear.

Well, find one thread where I diss the UFC for no reason. Or better yet, find one thread where I'm worshipping Pride. This was about neither of them.

they do boo sometimes...a fight has to be really lack luster for awhile for the japanese fans to boo...if they are seeing grappling or trying to get the action going they wont boo or say anything about it...so basically if you get any boo's in japan your fight must be really boring...in america if you circle for 30 secs you're going to get boo'd at the ufc events...i've seen it for myself...they pretty much want action from beginning to end or you will hear about it
