The plight of a MMA fan in India..

Allright ...ill start from the beginning .India as a country isnt really that developed ...we still have bullock carts and man pulled rickshaws on the streets of a metropolitan city and we have children with hands cut off , coming up to your window when your in a car in a traffic jam and begging for money..etc....theres also a lot of stuff that people dont know about ..

My point to this is that MMA as a sport isnt even on the freaking radar.We have a set bunch of channels that our goverment wants us to see and half of that is regional news channels.
There are two major sports channels here ...one being ESPN...but not like the ESPN that everyone around the world gets ...here we have cricket 24/7..on espn ...India eats ,drinks ,sleeps cricket ...
The other being Star sports ...and this is where it all started ...Dont get me wrong ..back in the mid nineties ...i caught an MTV special on The UFC ...but thats about it ...
Then one day I was flipping through channels and something caught my attention ..
What I saw was a black dude ..laying on top of this Japanese guy with "speedos",and he was crashing his knees down the dude ...I dont know what it was but from that day on I was a man possesed...I later found out that the black guy was Rampage and well the speedos gave up his opponent ,right?
Anyway ...(im really sorry but ive been visiting the Sherdog forums since early 2005 and I dont know anyone else in India who watches MMA..so I really wanted to communicate with other fans of the sport)....
Yeah,anyway,so since that day ive been addicted to MMA.We dont have any form of information about anything really..in India so I had to look up the net for all my info..
I watched a lot of fights ...well whatever I could get on the net anyway..
But my main gripe is that we in India,we as in middle class can actually afford a comp with a net connection ...about 70% of the people here are below the poverty line ...so you see where im getting at.
I cant get any of the older events and we dont have PPV here or Satellite TV...or anything of that sort .So ,im never able to pay for MMA.Id love to have a bunch of friends over and chip in for a Pride or Ufc event,and go nuts .
I hate the fact that I have to download the events ...as a fan of the sport ,I want to pay my fair share ,and help the sport evolve and grow,but I just cant ,we dont even have the bare facilites (water ,electricity) set yet ...I dont even know if MMA will ever get big here.Its really depressing,and theres nothing I can do to change that.
Although,since ive been on the boards,its been really cool, of course the stupid comments ,trolls and fighter bashing suck,but overall the forums rock man..some dudes are funny as hell and truth be told ,some posters have me laughing with the funniest shit ever..
Great for a shitty day .
Anyway,,,its a long first post ..hope I dont offend anyone or get banned or something ..

Welcome to Sherdog, congrats on your first post (you had the account for 1 year before deciding to post?). That sucks you can't get decent MMA on TV that you can pay for and not feel guilty about downloading fights. Have you tried the online PPV services like what Pride has been offering for its past couple of fights? I don't know if they are regulated by where you are in the world, but if you want to watch it live, check that out. Also, ProElite.com just recently had the ICON Sport fight in Hawaii for free online live, you should watch for more free shows from them. your post definitely put my situation into perspective, I feel lucky that I get to watch this stuff with minimal effort. Yeah I just decided to read up on MMA more before I decided to post,didnt want to make supid statements about fights and fighters I didnt know about ,it would be rude .
And about the online stream ...again we have really bad net connections and its takes me about 6 days to download a 700mb file so streaming is totally out of question ...oh yeah and also ...Its insanely hard to get a credit card in India ...I dont know why.People here dont trust each other I guess.
Man ,I really wish that the concept of PPV hits this place...other than that ..I have to rely on the internet and Sherdog..

Welcome to the MMA community. Watch out though, Sherdoggers can be very rude, ignorant, and racist. Check above posts. But there are also good people on here too. =) Just ignore 80% of the posts on here and you'll be okay!

Not everyone here worships rats....India is really diverse.people dont eat beef because a cow is a sacred diety here ..theres about 3 million gods here so ..people tend to go overboard with thier customs ..theres stuff that happens here on a daily basis based on religion that people would be shocked if they actually new ...anyway this is a MMA forum ill cut the culture talk...

Ya'll have some yummy food, though. Tandoori chicken, raita, naan, samosa's - I could eat that stuff all day!!!
