Fair enough. If I'm right, we'll see a shocking upset loss by Silva within 12 months.

What, you're saying that he could have easily destroyed Cote, but wanted to give the fans a long fight so they can enjoy? That's crazy. Silva has not fought anyone with Cote's power for a long time, and he was a bit vary of it. He said himself that it was just a gameplan, not a mockery.

It wasn't a mockery, but yes I am saying he could have easily destroyed Cote but wanted to give the fans a show. He pretty much said so directly after the fight.
Sorry Cote fans!

This is one of the lamest excuses ever made for a bad performance. Are we to believe that Silva believes fans want to see him running around and not engaging, that that's a better "show" than a spectacular KO? Doesn't make any sense.

If Maia can get a shot, I think Maia can beat him.
Not saying Maia is a better fighter than him, but a perfect matchup.
If there were such a thing as a 230 pound Maia i think he would be an incredibly tough matchup for Fedor too. Getting the takedowns against Fedor isn't enough. You have to be able to defend the subs. (Arona showed the gameplan for beating Fedor IMO.)
And yes, I am a completely irrational Maia nuthugger.

So when Silva beats up opponents he's the deadliest fighter alive, when he doesn't he's just doing it to pick up the suspense. Maybe when he loses, it'll be because he wanted to create a bit of a drama in the division. And if he wanted a show, why didn't he give it by methodically picking cote apart, but rather running away and clowning. Not much of a show, he must've known himself halfway into the second nobody was pleased with his performance.

Andy Silva walks around at 231.5 lbs according to the man himself. How much more would it really be than the self admitted 231.5 lbs?

The hypothetical Maia would still have to prevent sweeps and win by a large enough margin during his time on top to make up for losing whatever standup portion there was. I doubt even a mutant Maia could sub Fedor. And Fedor has improved so much since the Arona fight (which he still won) that I don't see it as being at all relevant to a game plan for him today.

Oh, he definitely planned on getting the KO.
At the same time, the way he was fighting was definitely not just about winning.
If he just wanted to win why offer Cote a hand to get up? He could have ground and pounded him. Its not like Cote has a threatening bottom game.
To me the only explanation for his behavior was to put on a show.
I was disappointed in the fight as much as the next guy. He should have just knocked him out.
But I honestly don't think the fight was a negative reflection on his skills in any way.
Feel free to disagree.
