Is the Olympic Training Center or Iowa State best for MMA?

Hello I do not normally post but I do love this forum and value some peoples opinions on sherdog. I have been faced with a tough decision recently and am having the toughest time deciding between the two. I have been given the opportunity to wrestle at either Iowa State University under Cael Sanderson and Tim Hartung who will be my training partners or I could wrestle at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs for Greco Roman Wrestling. I was wondering what people thought would make me better prepared for MMA in the future? Any input would be greatly appreciated! I hope to one day be an MMA fighter and know that wrestling at Iowa State would be helpful because I will learn the winning mentality that Cael Sanderson has and he has given me permission to train mma during the wrestling offseason and maybe travel and train with team Militech and learn from the best. I also could go to the Olympic Training Center and wrestle with the best Greco Roman Wrestlers in the country and could train mma with some of the Olympic wrestlers that fight as well. I have gone back and forth with my decision a thousand times but now it is crunch time and I have to decide by tomorrow.

So I guess my questions are...

1. Where would I most benefit in MMA between Iowa State and maybe training with Militech occasionally or the Olympic Training Center for Greco.

2. What looks better to the MMA world... NCAA Champion or Olympian?

3. What is better for fighting... Folkstyle/Collegiate wrestling or Greco Roman?

Thanks for all of y'alls input and I would glady give my two cents on any questions if you ever needed input.

Even though I'm originally from Iowa I would say to transfer in to MMA you should train Greco. I also think it sounds better to be an Olympian than an NCAA champion. Either one is a great opportunity that shouldn't be passed up.

id say go to isu youll get exposure to d1 wrestling and get an education. and the education will give you something to fall back on. and either route you go youll get good wrestling experience and your obvisouly good if your goin to go to isu. wrestling is only part of mma but its a good source if i were you focus on wrestling and take it from there after your done with school.

That's great. I assume you could get into mma either as a NCAA chamion or Olympian since there are already precedents for both. If you make the Olympic team and participate you are most likely a lock to be given an opportunity at mma.
I doubt you could go wrong either way. Though if you could train mma while doing so that would be an advantage.

I will get to get an education if I go to the OTC... community college two years then Colorado State University the next two. I went to the United States Olympic Education Center last year for greco and enjoyed it until I got injured in a match with the world champion and had to have surgery. I know both are a great opportunity and I am blessed to have had been given the chance to either! I am just trying to figure out what is best for me and I know that I want to fight after I am down with wrestling and school. Thanks for your input guys and keep em coming please!

Living in Colorado Springs my whole life, I can say that the city is awesome. Here is the proof: http://money.cnn.com/magazines/money...bigcities.html

But we don't need anymore stupid Texans here so go to Iowa!

Olympian looks better, but it's hard to say what's better for MMA. Clinches present more opportunities in MMA than shots, so Greco MIGHT have an edge there. But ground control and scrambling from collegiate and even freestyle will be useful. Look at Greco-Roman based wrestlers in MMA like Lindland and Henderson, they get taken down a lot from the legs because in going the Greco route, they don't train that kind of takedown defense as much. So that's something to consider as well.

Personally man, I'd go to Iowa. But I was never half as good a wrestler as you seem to be, so I'm sure what ever choice you make would be better than what I could suggest. Not like you can really go wrong, so to speak. Best of luck.

Go to ISU.

You're a big guy so you're going to be doing alot of Greco training regardless of where you go. No need to focus soley on it. Plus it will still get you in the right direction if you want to eventually pursue the olympics.
