Royce Dementia or Insanity?

Royce says the hardest battle is in your head. I agree with this to a point. But then Josh Gross challenges him on this indirectly by asking what happened in his head with his fight against Matt Hughes.

Josh Gross: Do you think on your best day you could beat Matt Hughes?

Royce: I can beat Matt Hughes. I didn't show up for that fight.

Sorry Royce. All the respect in the world to you. Hall of famer. Pioneer. Fought roid monkeys twice your size and beat them...

NO! On your best day you can not beat Matt Hughes.

Did you expect him to say he couldn't beat Hughes? Gracies are way to proud for that.

Yeah honestly what do you expect. It's nice to see them throw Sakuraba a can for a change....

I expected him to admit that he is past his prime and that Hughes is in his prime and beat him fairly. Or mention how the sport has changed so much since his early days and then go off about how BJJ is so influential and buy my dvd.

it's called selling a fight. people say things they would not normally say when they are hyping a fight. point in case - mayweather talking about MMA before the fight and then immediately apoligizes.

if you haven't learned by now not to take fighter's comments leading up to a fight seriously, stop watching MMA because you just don't get it.

I didn't say he couldn't beat Sakuraba. I said he's past his prime and the sport has passed him by and he can't beat Hughes or anybody else top ten.

Beating Sakuraba on his death bed is hardly an accomplishment.

No I get it. I'm not disputing the fact that he may be able to beat Sakuraba. It's just the ridiculousness of his statements and manner he says them in. He seriously believes he can beat Matt Hughes after Hughes popped his arm and then beat him into a pulp. I think those punches might have long term damage on Royce brain. He still thinks its 1994.

Admitting there is a fighter out there in his weight class that he could never top in a fight wouldn't be conducive to selling his fight against Sakuraba, or keeping the (already battered) Gracie reputation afloat, now would it?

royce is, was and always will be the man!!!!To say he can't beat anyone is dumb in my opinion. I think in the hughes fight he did well the first minute or so. He just got owned on the ground but I just don't know if I could say he would lose to anybody. Even if he's lost to them before. I think the sport has past him by which is hard for me to do because I'm a huge fan of his.
