Hmm, I would tend to agree, but to be honest I don't know if a 170 pound Fedor could beat GSP. It doesn't seem likely does it? Nah......of course Fedor is really 230 some pounds, and his skill as GSP's is based on them and their actual weight, so we'll never really know.

GSP says Fedor is #1 as does Mir and countless other top 10 fighters. Sherdog, quit trying to slurp on the UFCs balls to get back in their good books.
This is a situation where you could actually have a legitimate catch weight fight between Fedor and Silva at 200 and change and you know that Fedor would be the heavy favorite. A pound of Fedor is more skilled, more powerful, and more deadly than a pound of any other fighter. Period.

That is called an ad baculum, or appeal to force. It's like saying "Before you answer remember who signs your paycheck." So under your guidelines, I'd have to answer that Fedor is the #1 fighter, or suffer at least an insult, or satisfy the condition you set out of only having less than half a brain, which would make me pretty stupid I suppose.

But a 205 pound Fedor could beat a 205 pound Silva -- you know it.

What? You actually think Fedor would make 200? I doubt it. I really do. I don't even think the man knows how to cut weight, as he likely has never had to do it before. GSP is saying Fedor is #1, but he is being modest, as he himself could be considered the top pound for pound fighter in the world. Mir does count for something as he has a widely valued opinion on the matter. I don't think Sherdog is making this out to be some kind of praise of the UFC. We are talking about fighters not organizations.

I wish I did. I'd make a lot of money! LOL. I don't know it, and that is the thing....o.k. I believe it, and belief is a form of knowledge, so sure, I know it! Maybe. I don't know....what about 185? Think a smaller chub in Fedor takes the fight with a long, lean 185 pound Silva? (kidding)

What Dana says and what will actually happen is two different things. Kid is DREAM's #1 mega draw and he makes millions fighting in Japan coupled with his sponsorships.
If Dana doesn't pony up and pay Kid a ton of money, probably multiple times more than the highest paid fighter in the organization, there's no way Kid is going to the WEC.(Although I'd love to see it)

Yeah, Agreed. I find it a joke that Rampage is in the top of any rankings for that matter, but perhaps Sherdog is attempting to get back in the good graces with Dana.

Not all fighters need to compete at more than one weight class. But those who cut 2 weight classes (such as Anderson Silva) need to do a bit more to show that their dominance is down to skill rather than size advantage. Fedor has fought many opponents larger than himself (Sylvia, Fuchida), many opponents considered more skilled at the time (Herring, Big Nog), technically superior strikers (Hunt, Arlovski, CroCop), technically superior grapplers (Big Nog again, Lindland) yet Fedor always managers to triumph regardless of any physical factors that his opponent might have. In any of his fights (bar the Lindland one) Fedor has often been at a disadvantage of reach, size or power but still lands the W. He has beaten everyone put before him (even his one 'loss' was actually a DQ win but Fedor was ruled out of the next round by the doctor, so the loser advanced). Fedor is really a LHW (along the same lines of Randy Couture or Forrest Griffin) yet he kicks arse in the heavyweight division. Fedor is P4P king.
Note: Georges St. Pierre is someone I also consider vastly over-sized for his division. Then again, so is Thiago Alves, so I consider that fight to be a real test for St. Pierre. P4P is currently a toss-up between Pierre or Fedor. Anderson Silva is out of the picture.

Machida still hasn't beaten a top 10 LHW, I don't think T. Silva counts.
