Nuts I Hug: Frank Trigg
This is part one of my posting series of which fighters nuts I hug. There has been some talk on this forum, with merit I believe, about fans hugging the nuts of a fighter until he starts losing, when this happens they start bashing that fighter instead.
Instead of complaining about this and pointing fingers onto others, I looked myself in the mirror and asked myself: "Am I guilty of being a fair-weather-fan?".
The answer? A maybe.
So, I decided to think about it, or rather, it lingered in the back of my head that I should probably just not be a turn-coat. Thinking of it I after a while realized that I like active, creative fighters that can bang, can move, can be tactical, don't give up, don't stall, etc. And I prefer if they're not full of shit in the classical smack-talk kind of way that american fighters usually exhibits.
So. That was the background.
I officially hug Frank Triggs nuts. Now, I suspect he has retired (is it official or has my white-beltness blinded me for this fact?) but that shouldn't stop me from hugging those nuts of his, right?
Why do I like him?
Well, it sure isn't because of his winning ways! I think I've seen one or two fights in which Frank actually wins, but a lot more where he loses, hard... to Hughes, Hughes again and then Georges St. Pierre. I've seen his UFC wins but I hardly remember them, actually. I've seen his ROTR win and loss, don't really remember those. But those three losses I mentioned AND the one I am using as my nuthugging motivation I do remember and they are the reason I hug the mans nuts!
The last fight I saw with him (not his last fight), hadn't seen it before, was against Sakurai. Wow, what a FIGHT! And yes, I am something of a Sakurai-nut-hugger after his display of "I won't die"-ability in that ring! But anyways, after seeing the fight, I felt robbed, I felt Frank deserved to win, that he could have won if not Sakurai had managed to slip, almost knocked out, under the ropes several times. I can imagine Franks frustration leading up to him perhaps being sloppy when hit with the punch that started his downfall in that fight - but he kept coming! And I was surprised to see they used the count, but anyways, he kept coming.
And lost. After three knockdowns, brutal ones at that. Ah, the fight game, so bittersweet!
Well, I realize the pointlessness of trying to hug a potentially retired fighters nuts but still, I admire and am a fan of Frank Trigg.
How can you not admire a man with the nickname "Twinkletoes"?
It's not wether you win or lose in my book, it's if you put up a fight - and Frank does!

PS
I'll be back with other nuts I am currently hugging and a motivation on each.
