Fedor may be the best fighter on the planet, but at this moment, it's hard to keep him there. What keeps him there in the eyes of most is that he hasn't lost. It's the Diego Sanchez idea. If you haven't lost, it automatically puts you higher in rank, even if the competition you faced isn't as difficult as the competition someone else has. And what happened after Sanchez lost? His stock fell considerably.
I think if Fedor were to lose anytime soon, his stock would fall dramatically. But then we'll never see that put into action, so it's sort of a moot point. Yet, it's interesting to think about...

My point on Randy is this:
He left the UFC before he even knew Nog was going to be a #1 contender. He left IMO, because the UFC could not sign Fedor. i don't think he was sitting around thinking, well if Nog makes his way to the top, that would make a great fight. I think he was more interested in telling the UFC to FUCK OFF! Now, some people think Randy overracted w/the whole situatiuon and maybe he did. But if you tell someone to FUCK OFF, you can't really go back and retract that because a VERY attractive fight w/Nog presents itself months later. I mean, he saw Nog almost get KTFO by Herring so I am not sure he was even convinced that Nog had anything left. He was focusing on CroCop and Gonzaga. Nog had not even shown up on the radar at that point. If he had it to do over, maybe he would have stuck around to fight Nog...but I think he was trying to get the best fight he could get in the shortest time period. Obviously that did not work because Dana wanted to punish him. If he could fight Nog now, outside the UFC, I am sure he would. But that aint gonna happen. Nog is stuck in TUF hell now and Randy in Legal hell. Randy has a finite number of fights left in him and it is obvious that fighting Fedor will take priority over everything else.
