Recuperating from an injury in the knee, Mauricio Shogun said in interview to TATAME´s site that will talk with the president of UFC, Dana White, to be back to the octagon on march or april. Shogun also affirmed that will cheer for Wanderlei Silva in the fight against Chuck Liddell. “Of course I´ll cheer for Wanderlei, first of all because he´s a friend of mine. I believe Wanderlei will win Liddell. He just haves to be careful with his counter-attack, because it´s Liddell´s favorite game, turning and going out to hit and Wanderlei has that kind of aggressive game. But Wanderlei is better than Liddell in the exchanges and he can win this fight with a knockout”, affirmed Shogun in the full interview you follow below:
When will you return to trainings?
Next week I´ll be back. My knee is OK, I'm already running a little bit and I´ll ring Dana White this week saying that I want to return on march or april.
In your return to octagon, do you pretend to ask for a revenge against Forrest Griffin ?
Yes, I want the revenge, but I don´t think the promoters are interested in this fight right now. I´ll train to be well prepared against anyone Ultimate puts me to fight.
What do you think of the fight between Wanderlei Silva and Chuck Liddell in UFC 79?
Of course I´ll cheer for Wanderlei, first of all because he´s a friend of mine. Nowadays everybody has the same level, but I believe Wanderlei will win Liddell. He just have to be careful with his counter-attack, because it´s Liddell´s favorite game, turning and going out to hit and Wanderlei has that kind of aggressive game. UFC 79 will also have the confrontation between Lyoto Machida and Sokoudjou, who has won Ricardo Arona and Rogério Minotouro. What´s your opinion about this fight?
Sokoudjou proved that he´s a good fighter, otherwise he wouldn´t had won Arona and Minotouro, but I´ve already trained with Lyoto in Chute Boxe and I think he´s a more complete athlete. I believe that this will be a stand-up fight, Lyoto could even try to take this fight to the ground, but Sokoudjou is good in take downs and I don´t think Lyoto will spend time trying to take the fight to the ground. I bet in Lyoto in this fight, I think he wins the fighter in the striking game.
What do you think about the fight between your brother, Murilo Ninja, in Cage Rage 24?
I followed my brother in and I think he made a good fight. Now he has to train hard to win the belt of the event that has no owner. They´ve already told him that his next fight will be for the Cage Rage´s belt.
