Could someone explain what happend in Diaz vs Gomi?

Hey guys, I just watched this match again and it reminded me as to how confused I was. Did Gomi COMPLETELY gas and the 2nd half of the first round? Is he known for bad endurance? I'm confused.

yes he did completely gas. If he had any energy left, he would have at least had his hands up

he was like beating the shit out of diaz for 3 minutes and then all of a sudden he wouldn't even lift his hands up. i don't think he trained.

Every fighter has bad performances.

That being said, Diaz proved what most of us knew all along.

Just hard for me to swallow the fact that high caliber fighters are gassing within the first round. I find it VERY disappointing when that happens, the fight is no longer exciting. Same goes for Rua in his UFC debut. Maybe it has something to do with the time zones, never the less when your pretty much representing an entire organization (pride vs ufc) you'd damn well better be ready.

That he can get his ass handed to him until Gomi gasses?

He was hardly getting his ass handed to him.

Whew one take down and one big bomb.

Diaz had a couple of submission attempts and stopped Gomi from doing anything significant.
The only time Diaz was in trouble was when he got hit with that punch. He put his hand down and sat down with minimal impact and tied Gomi up looking for submissions.

Gassing is no excuse for losing. "Oh, Gomi was winning until he lost". Bullshit.

I saw it live in vegas. Diaz absorbed his punishment and wore Gomi down then choked that little fucker out! Plain and simple

Looked like Gomi gassed to me. He managed to knock down and f**k up Diaz's face before taking some hits and losing to a gogoplata. I still would like to see a rematch. Gomi should sign with Elite XC if the UFC won't take him, it's their loss.
