My take on Wanderlei Silva vs Chuck Liddell.(long read)
First off, I don't want this to turn into a PRIDE FC vs UFC thread. So please, keep those comments to yourselves. I have my own take on the matter but I don't want to deal with the blind ignorance presented by both the UFC nuthuggers and PRIDE nuthuggers.
Everyone talks about it. Everyone wants it. To me this fight is the equivalent to Hagler/Hearns, Hagler/Leonard, Frazier/Ali, etc. The list goes on. That just shows the magnitude of this fight. So why won't this fight happen? EGO! PRIDE's ego and the UFC's ego. There's too much politics that go into making this fight. Both promotions can't co-exist and find common ground.
I've noticed that Silva has been under alot of fire because he called Chuck at the Real Deal and for his loss to Cro Cop. When it comes back to the Cro Cop fight, Wandy stepped up and went down fighting. It does not make him less of a fighter to go down against the #2 heavyweight in world(arguably #1). He's still a beast and one of the best fighters the world has ever seen. When he called out Chuck at Real Deal, it was PRIDE's way of egging on the UFC and trying to make them look bad. Don't be mad at Wand. He didn't understand why this fight couldn't happen and from his prespective, he thought the Chuck was ducking him, which cleary isn't the case.
As for the fight, I can't really pick a winner. Chuck has never faced a fighter like Silva, and Silva hasn't faced a fighter like Liddell. It's a 50/50 situation. People seem to feel that Chuck would lose because they feel his weakness is a good striker. Technically, that's half right. Chuck's weakness is fighter that can outstrike him and wear him out, not necessarily a better striker. Randy proved it and so did Rampage. Vitor, Overeem, Mezger, and "Tiger" White had Chuck backing up in there respective bouts against him but ended up on the losing end though.
We have yet to see Chuck's gameplan against a striker because he has fought grapplers in last few fights. After his losses to Page and Couture, he understood what fighters, primarily grapplers, had to do beat him; stand with him to set up the takedown. Therefore, we see a different Iceman. He has a become a very passive and effective counter-striker, who's always ready for the takedown attempts, always moving, and rarely using kicks. That is why he is still the Champ in the UFC. When it comes to how he would fair against a very effective striker, it has yet to be seen. I can only think that he would use more kicks and become a bit more aggressive because he doesn't have to worry about takedowns.
If this fight was to happen, personally I feel that if Chuck was to win, he would have to take out Silva early. Not because of Chuck's cardio, but because Silva becomes more relaxed and finds his groove and pushes the pace as the fight progresses. But the one thing about Silva that may lead him to losing this fight is his over-aggression. He tends to keep pushing forward and tries to walk throw punches. If he does this against Chuck, Chuck will drop him but Silva has great recovery time but it may not be a complete KO unless Chuck closes in for the finish. To sum it up, Chuck could win if he takes it early. Silva wins if it goes into deep waters(longer fight).
If it does happen, what does it all mean? Plently of things. It will prove once and for all who is the top lightheavyweight in the world. But if Chuck beats Wandy, it doesn't mean UFC>PRIDE or the other way around. It just proves that one fighter is better than the other. Also it would be great for the sport and a big step into helping it go mainstream. For one, it would take power away from the promoters. The promoters have too much control. People act like they're big corporations at odds with each other. But what it comes down to, is the fighters. It's all about the fighters. Once people start to see that and once the fighters realize that they are in control and that promoters work for them, things will only improve for the sport. Liddell vs Silva would only be the first step and a big step towards this. So I can only pray that this fight happens.

I agree with most of your assessment, bu the problem that I see even if the fight does happen is the rules of each organization. The UFC and PRIDE have certain rules that the fighters of their respective organizations have used to their advantage, and rightfully so. Wanderlei and Shogun use head stomps and soccer kicks, which as you know, are not legal in the UFC. Thus, they would be at a disadvantage to Chuck if they fought in the UFC. It must be extremely difficult to abandon a big part of your game to fight in another organization.
Chuck uses the cage to both avoid takedowns and to get back up from takedowns. I think he would find it more difficult to get back up once taken down against certain fighters and would seem to be disadvantaged by Pride rules.

That's pretty much what everyone else says and thinks. Your post means nothing and nobody cares about 'your take' because it's pretty much the majority of sherdog's take.

I agree. Of course it works both ways but I don't think it would be too drastic for either fighter. Because of the rule differences, each losses something but gains something as well. Silva would be able to use elbows in the UFC and Chuck would be able to use knees and kicks to a downed opponent in PRIDE. It does add a whole different dynamic to the fight depending in which promotion it occurs and of course different gameplanning. This was something I didn't take into account. Thanks for pointing it out.

Ego
If ego is whats preventing this fight from happening, then why did Wandy call out Chucky in a Pride event? Pride wants this event to happen, as far as the UFC goes i believe they are the ones stalling this dream match from happening.

Pride basically used it as a ploy to build hype for the fight and by trying to make the UFC look bad on technically the UFC's home turf. It's questionable if the UFC is stalling. It's very likely because the last thing they want is to lose the stranglehold they have on American MMA fans.

A good analysis mate I liked it. Fair and balance. That is essentially how I see the fight transpiring.
