My Forrest Griffin story.
Ok, well, ive seen a few people here on Sherdog post threads about their encounter with fighters. So, i'd like to share a very cool story about Forrest Griffin.
My friends and I decided to go to UFC 60: Hughes vs Gracie. We met a ton of awesome fighters (Chuck Liddell, Rich Franklin, Nate Quarry, Gabriel Gonzaga, Brandon Vera, Joe Riggs, Mike Swick, Tim Sylvia was especially nice). Bu,t the one who stuck up BY FAR was Forrest Griffin. After the weigh-ins the day before the fight, Royce and Forrest both came out to greet the fans at the same time. Royce was automatically swarmed by tons of people. Forrest, however was left there kinda standing by himself. While one of my other friends ran over to join the huge Royce Gracie crowd, another buddy of mine, and myself went up to Forrest and started shooting the breeze with him. We got a few pictures and some autographs as well (he stole my Sharpie, by the way. haha.). Anyways, we said bye and gave him our thanks...afterwords, they were getting all of fighters on some bus and taking em back to the hotel, im assuming. Mike Swick, and Rich Franklin actually had to turn frans down from autographs and pictures because the bus was waiting for them. Forrest though, completley ignored the fact that they were waitng on him and he made sure that everybody around him got their questions answered (a lot of Tito questions seeing as they had just fought beofre then) and had pictures and autographs as well....its amazing how humble of a guy he is.
Well, my friends and I were staying at the Westin Bonaventure there in LA. We got back to our room, and decided to go down stairs to the bar for a few drinks. Well, we get down stairs to the bar and who do we see standing there by himself? Forrest. We all kinda talked amongst each other and decided that we wouldn't bother him anymore since we did take like 10 minutes of his time already at Staples. Anyways, Forrest actually came up to us and said; "Hey, whats up guys?" I jokingly said, "man, your gonna think were stalking you". Forrest gave me the strangest look and said; "Maybe im stalking you." We all laughed and started asking him more questions about his last fight with Tito (Tito won IMO) and why he goes back and forth between vegas and georgia for his training. Anyways, my friend Julian asked Forrest if he wouldn't mind talking to a friend of his who was according to him; "His biggest fan". Forrest, without any hesitation whatsoever said; "Sure, man, no problem". We were suprised that Forrest actually stayed on the phone with this guy for about 5 minutes...but I guess thats just the kind of guy he is. Anyways....if you read all of this, thaks, I know its really, really long, but I just wanted everyone to know just how unique of a guy Forrest Griffin truly is...Thanks..

Well, as you can see, I joined the forums in February, so for obvious reasons, it wasn't posted then. I just before, I never really thought about it until I had seen other people post their stories about meeting other fighters..

When I was in Florida for Shamrock Ortiz 3, we got GSP to talk to one of our friends on the phone, no prob. Most of them are really nice dudes.

haha i had a similair encounter. the first time i met bas, i got a picture talked a little and then felt overwhelmed by his greatness so my friend and i moved on. Later he comes up to my friend and I and he wants to start the conversation, i was surprised that he approached us but it was awesome, we talked and joked. He was drunk as hell but he has remembered us every time we have met him since.
