Coleman = Wasted Potential

I was a huge Mark Coleman fan when he steamrolled the UFC in the mid 90's. I also think had he adapted his game to a more rounded one that included subs, striking, etc. that he could have dominated for years. I mean when I watch him now it looks like the same fighter that I watched almost ten years ago. He does deserve credit for helping transform mma fighters into multiple skilled fighters though. The wrestlers (especially Coleman) dominated at first which I believe forced other fighters to adapt to their strength and takedowns. Any thoughts?

Coleman wasn't wasted potential. He's had a great career. I don't really care for his fighting style or his attitude, but hasn't wasted anything. He won two or three UFC events and the first Pride open weight GP.

Yes, he won the first Pride GP and is a former UFC Champ. How could he waste all that potential? The man is 42 and still in great shape, he has had a very good mma career. He just hasn't evolved with the sport

If wasted potential = the most decorated fighter in MMA history you are right.

MArk might have been slow to adapt, and has admitted to being lazy at times, but dont forget that the powers that be kept changing the rules on him EG-no headbutts, all because he was so dominant. Mark has only been subbed by two people in his Career, Nog and Fedor(takada admitted it was a work), and his standup game is not the greatest but its not as bad as people make it out to be, just watch the Rizzo or Voorn fight,

Also you must take into account when Mark fought the big 3, He was 10-15 years older than all of them,

We will see how good Fedor, Nog, and Cro Cop do when they are in their 40's and facing top talent who are in their 20's. Just some food for thought

Coleman could easily take your BJJ instuctor down, get his back, and choke him out, unless he is Fedor.

Ok, now I get it. The tow people making the case for him being a waste have 4 posts between the two of them. That's four divided by two... carry the noob...and divide by not getting it.

His only losses in the last six and a half years have been to Nog, Fedor, and Cro Cop. He also just took out one of the heavy favorites to win the OW GP a couple weeks ago. At age 41 none the less. In my mind, I think he isb still a very dangerous talented fighter.

If he never faught again, if right now he said I quit. He'd be one of the most sucessful fghters ever. Maybe not the best or my favorite but a great fighter with one of the greatest mma careers ever. He doesn't have to evolve he's 138 years old.
