So is this how "Non-exclusive" contracts work?

Sorry if this has been posted before.

I know most posters on here hate the fact that the UFC doesn't allow non-exclusive contracts because it deprives us from some great match-ups and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't one of those who thought this way....BUT...what's the sense of having non-exclusive contracts if one organization is allowed to kill a fight in another org for their own financial benefit?

Nick Diaz was supposed to fight Mach on July 21st at Dream for the WW belt, and now EXC has forced him out of this fight so he can fight on the July 26th card against Noons for the LW belt. I'm not saying Diaz is outright complaining since he would have had to fight 5 days apart which I couldn't really see happening anyway, but that's not really the point, he signed a non-exclusive contract and all of a sudden he has no say in whether he can compete for a belt without EXC trumping him and pulling him from an event he was getting paid for.

So with something like this happening are you still for non-exclusive contracts? Is Dana still the devil for not allowing his fighters to compete outside of his organization? If this was the UFC pulling Diaz from a title fight in Dream would you react the same way?

Gay. Elite XC sucks. They should've just had them fight in October.

Only a moron couldn't predict how problems this can arise through non exclusive contracts. Exclusive contracts can use some improvements though, no question.

Still...sucks because I would have preferred Diaz/Sakurai to Diaz/Noons.

The org isn't forcing anything, Diaz is deciding the Noons fight is more important. The org isn't going to try to cater to every fighters schedule to put on a show. That is the burden of the fighter to cater to the org when they want non-exclusivity.

I would have rather seen him fight Sakurai too.

But No n-exclusive contracts can be a good thing if done right.

But for the UFCs benefit exclusive is a safe bet for them and makes sense.

When you're EliteXC, you're EliteXC 4Life.

If I remember correctly, non-exclusive contracts were one (of many) problems that M-1 Global was facing when trying to set up an event. Think I remember seeing a Sherdog report that said they were having a hard time lining up credible fighters at the right time to put on their first show.

Could be wrong.

like most things in life (outside of Sherdog forum logic), it's not black & white.

this clearly sucks, but someone didn't do their homework. these things can and should be managed more properly. but ya, if a guy is fighting on 3 different continents for 4 different orgs, he needs to do some planning out before signing on the line.

I think that show only that the contract of Diaz is an exclusive contract with Elite XC. And this org has the choice to allow his fighter to fight in DREAM or not. This is an exclusive contract not a non exclusive.
