MMA banned in more Minnesota Cities ?

Apologies if this has been posted before. I saw this news article today about UFC being banned across multiple Minnesota cities apparently due to a fight between fans. I know that it was banned earlier in Red Wing, but now it seems more cities are following suit.

Ultimate Fighting Banned In Minn. Cities

(AP) Minneapolis A half-dozen cities across Minnesota have banned or restricted ultimate fighting as the growing sport that mixes martial arts and street brawling gains popularity.

The sport is likely to draw more restrictions by public officials concerned about safety, unruly crowds and the sport's reputation lack of regulation.

"It's very, very violent," said Tim Sletten, the police chief in Red Wing, which recently prohibited the sport. "It's street fighting in a ring. Until it's regulated and done as safely as possible, I don't want it in Red Wing.""

I'm pretty sure the UFC isn't sweating losing the town of Red Wing as a potential hotbed of talent though are they?

This guy is talking out of his ass. He really has no clue what the sport is all about.

Most people who aren't knowledgeable on the sport talk straight out of there. I'm sure your first time watching it can look pretty lawless and brutal though. Seems the track record of no fatal injuries for a few years should have them moving TO allow it, not moving away from it.

I hate when people still refer to it as street fighting

nothing wrong with banning unregulated MMA. Keeps people safe. Minnesota needs a regulatory commision.

"They got on top of him like they do in ultimate fighting and just kept pounding his head," Fridley police Capt. Brian Weierke said. "That's what put him in a coma."

like they do in ultimate fighting, ROFL

I'm sure this officer has seen many fist fights and doesn't relate that to boxing. Man people are fuckin stupid.

He sounds as uneducated about the UFC as al gore is concerning the changing world weather patterns and world climate changes.

Minnesota has a very active MMA community.

Red Wing is nothing. And even those politicians will come around eventually.

MMA for the most part is still socially unexceptable in our society. But, with time, comes changes.
