Hey guys, I heard and read the interview on the Dan Le Batard show. Cote made a fool of himself on air, sounded like an ignorant moron.
Greg Cote is a bag of douche.

It's kind of funny how he even said that the UFC is on it's way out and that CBS is reviving it... They have had one of their most successful string cards lately and they aren't the ones losing money hand over fist.

I am appalled at the lack of journalistic integrity you showed in your article, "CBS is now legitimizing barbaric sport". After reading three paragraphs it is clear to all but the most uneducated observers that you have never done any substantial research on the sport of Mixed Martial Arts and you have absolutely no facts to back up your opinion, one that I might add is quite archaic since no one from an objective stand-point has believed it to be "human cockfighting" since the UFC pushed for and received sanctioning and regulation.
The flaws and inaccuracies in your article are many, but I feel the need to point out the most glaring of your mistakes. First you use the phrase "MMA and rival UFC", which is proof positive that you haven't a clue of what you're talking about. Mixed Martial Arts, or MMA, is the name of the sport and the Ultimate Fighting Championship is merely one organization that promotes it. The statement you made would be akin to me saying, "football and rival NFL" or "boxing and rival WBO", which would make absolutely no sense seeing as how these are sports and popular organizations that sell them.
You make a connection between Michael Vick's dogfights and MMA, but no rational human being would even begin to draw comparisons between an activity that involves forcing an animal to fight to the death and a sport involving highly trained athletes that have the free will to decide whether to partake in combat or not. As for Wanderlei Silva holding Keith Jardine in a chokehold while striking him, that's just not correct. The Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts prohibit "throat strikes of any kind, including, without limitation, grabbing the trachea". Silva was operating within the rules when he pinned Jardine with his left hand as he was not constricting Jardine's airway.
Your brief mention of Michael Jackson is one of the bits of this article that I took the least offense to, but your clever attempt at insinuating that Jackson was embarrassed to be seen at a MMA event failed on every conceivable level since anyone that has seen Jackson in the last ten years knows that he tries to avoid being seen no matter what the venue. You claim that the fighters are all but bare-fisted, and that is also incorrect. They wear athletic commission-approved 4 ounce MMA gloves which are designed to protect the wearer's hand from damage when striking as well as to minimize the chances of cuts occurring from punches.
Also, MMA is far removed from "teenagers beating up a homeless guy" and to claim as much goes even further to show that you lack the integrity to write an op-ed piece using only facts, and instead have to rely on hyperbole and sensationalism to establish your position on a subject that you obviously have only minimal knowledge of. Had you researched properly you would know that there is no "might or might not" to eye-gouging being frowned upon as it is one of the thirty fouls listed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission in its rulebook. Research might have also directed you to the fact that many of MMA's top competitors are former Olympians and athletes who are respected internationally.
In closing, I'd like to say that these sorts of smear pieces disgust me, even moreso when the author clearly displays a lack of knowledge on the subject and an unwillingness to study it before cobbling together a shoddy article like this. Hopefully in the future you will learn to place your bias to the side when discussing a topic that is so obviously new to you.
Respectfully yours,
xxxxx xxxxxxxx

Yeah, from that to saying "MMA and rival UFC" it's just ridiculous how ignorant this guy is and how little research he put into the topic. How can this guy be a professional writer?

Who cares. The sport has reached a point where these kinds of articles don't reflect bad on the sport, they on;y make the writer look bad.

im not embarrassed or angry because he's bashing the sport...im just embarrassed for the dude cause he's 15 years behind the times. MMA is mainstream, get over it, lets move on to bigger, better, and more important things
