Met Quinton Jackson yesterday.
Long time viewer of sherdog, but this is the first time I felt compelled to post. Met Rampage yesterday. He was promoting for Toyo Tires and guest of honor at the Formula D drifting competition in Monroe, Washington which is a little hick town about 30 miles out of Seattle. Last place in the world I would have expected to see the UFC champ but it made sense since Toyo was one of the main sponsors and a pretty big UFC sponsor. I just shook his hand and got an autograph. Sorry no pictures. But he was just riding around the track in a golf cart and they did a short interview with him over the loud speaker system. It was funny cause there were thousands of people there, and I would say only about 50 people seemed to know who he was even though he was wearing the big UFC belt and his chain. And after his big interview they said "Give it up for UFC champ Rampage Jackson!!!" and me and about 12 other people clapped and yelled and everyone else was clueless. Shows how well the UFC promotes their NON LIDDELL champ. Anyone else from the Seattle area there???

Yeah, exactly. UFC hasn't quite figured out how to market a black (!!!) fighter to a white (!!!) audience! I am talking about cultural differences here, people, not a race issue.

Good story, pics would of been great (even cell phone one's), but it's fine. It's pretty funny and not surprising to hear that Rampage isn't as publicly known as Liddell is yet. In fact, I remember when after Chuck lost to Rampage he went on Craig Ferguson's show to give an interview and it's funny, cause you would figure they put the champ on there instead of the loser.
Oh by the way, TS, use paragraphs!

It's not that, it's more that Quinton only has two fights in the UFC, the first of which was hardly marketed at all. The Liddell fight was so short the fans unfamiliar with Quinton still aren't sure what to make of him. Give it time. Chuck himself took a fair amount of time to gain popularity with the fans as well.

i agree chuck has been in the ufc for years. rampage has had only 2 fights in the ufc. if rampage keeps the belt for as long as chuck did he will start getting mobbed like chuck does.

He has only 2 UFC fights under his belt. You're average idiot who watches the UFC will probably need to see 1 or two big wins before they start rooting for him.

It's not even that, if they knew who Liddell was they would have acknowledged Rampage for having beaten him. MMA's not quite at the mainstream level that people like to believe. It's only a matter of time before these guys get the respect deserved...
