Matt Hughes overrated?
Just a thought..
I've been seeing post obviously from Matt Hughes fan's saying he's the G.O.AT of UFC in his division. My question is this based on MMA math? Sure he defeated some good fighters such as Newton, Trigg, Sakurai, Penn etc etc.. But during these victories would you consider Trigg that great of a fighter? It showed how dominate GSP was over him, Sakurai it was his first UFC debut, and Penn well we all can say Penn wasn't 100 percent there and GSP was a young up and comer, but proved his dominance over hughes the second time around, similar to BJ, BJ beat him the first time while moving up weight!! I can go on, but recently on the last TUF Hughes says that he doesn't see himself fighting much longer.
Do you think he might just be saying this cause he knows that the WW division is waaay stacked and he doesn't want to ruin his legacy? Knowing that talent in that divsion has him questioning him and skeptics is hughes really that great? Sure he has been put to the test and came through, but the fighters he was fighting where they at there greatest potential? Based on the last fight I see GSP beating him 9x10 BJ the same, Newton was washed up but in his prime prolly beat Hughes more than Hughes would beat him, Trigg imo isn't as good as people make him out to be.
With the WW guys now, Kosh, Fitch, Karo, a questionable Penn, GSP, My question do you people think Hughes knows! That he can't be dominate in the WW division anymore and uses the excuse I've been champion and dominated this divsion for so long I have nothing else to prove, do you guys think thats kind of a cop out to being scared that deep inside hughes knows he has know chance with that division being so stacked? Sorry Hughes Fans hes a good fighter but evolution takes it's course.
I hated the fact that for the Hughes and Gracie fight the UFC hyped up the fight as if Gracie actually had a chance. I hope they do the same with Hughes when hes like 42 to fight a guy in his prime!! I'm sure it would be the same outcome. Flame all you want Hughes fans, you know the only reason he made that statment about not fighting for much longer cause you know he knows that he cant handle the it.. Sorry Hughes but you were never that impressive to me..

Do those wins include wrestling/Grappling matches?

Matt Hughes is an arrogant prick, but he's also a great fighter. Losing to BJ Penn and GSP isn't something to be ashamed of. Hughes is the consumate professional. He shows up in shape and ready to fight every single time. Defending the title which Hughes did for years is a lot different than just winning the title -- see GSP.

All of those fighters were top in their day. Your comparing the people he is fighting to more well rounded fighters now Like GSP, Fitch, Etc ... The game is different now than when he was dominating, but he only lost one fight. He is still great, and will be until he retires.

Amazing fighter during his reign
IMO he'll never be the same again as long as GSP is around and now I see Fitch being able to beat him too but he will always be a top contender

LOL...It never ceases to amaze me.....
The guy has LOST 2 FIGHTS SINCE 2001!!!! Of his 41 wins only 9 were decisions. He slams EVERYONE. He's made 18 guys tap. Name one guy in that weight class he hasn't beaten who matters. (Other than Serra who he will beat in DEC).
Yeah he's overrated.
Thank you for your time.
