They can't hype him for how long his reign as champion was AND hype him for being a 9 time champion.... you gotta either believe you've been champion for a certain amount of time OR you have won a new title every fight.

they, for some strange reason, consider in all of the defenses as well as the capturing of the title. The fight against Riggs was non-title when Riggs failed to make weight. Take that fight out of there, two times winning the belt + seven times defending= 9 time champ.

its shortened from 9 times defending. it is misleading and should really b announced in terms of reigns not defences esp in UFC where the defending champ doesn't tend the title to the company or local atheltic commision at the start of the fight
