I think this move has two purposes;
1. It attacks some the exclusive nature of Zuffa's contracts, paving the way for future negotiations (as mentioned before). and ..
2. It preemptively attacks the second line of defense for Zuffa. If the litigation over the employment contract goes in Randy's favor, Zuffa could seek a 2nd injunction as the promotional contract is brought to court. They may know they would lose, but freezing any fights for an extra 6 months could be long enough to end Randy's career, or at least further diminish interest in any such fights.
Now, all secondary questions will be answered by the end of the current hearings.
